I had done exactly the same as you brendan. I also took the wrong letter off the two word indication to 29a, i.e. my extra letter was coming from the second word and it is obviously the first word. I now have a message that nearly makes sense, as I now need to work on the penultimate word to it. I knew the meaning of the first word as I spent 42 years as a Stress Engineer on later versions of the thematic entries.

Slightly unsatisfied with an explanation for the title, from a straight definition to a thematic one to, I don’t know, RAF realism. Anyone got anything convincing?

Not sure about the title, but I'm guessing it's significant it contains the two thematic letters?

Is the signature colour the last four letters of the extra letters? If so it doesn’t match the actual colour of the objects.

Yes it is unclued - and presumably matches their colour on a 43a (or from below)

Wikipedia would seem to disagree...
