I'm pretty sure I have finished this and have the right number of 'further cells' but I am not very satisfied with it. I am not sure about the wordplay for either 42 or 44 and the 'message' did not make any sense until I Googled it.

It also appears that we have to shade in a 'signature colour' for which I do not have a marker pen. Stationery shops are closed due to lockdown so I am not sure what I can do about this, apart from write a note saying 'Yellow is the new ****'

Rather than a pen, you could use a different writing implement...

42 is two-letter abbreviation for way of working (used by police) + I in anagram CASE (giving extra E)

44 4-letter cricket shot in DUNS (with D extra)

42 is M(odus) O(perandi) + simple anag.

44 Extra letter is at start of the 7 letter answer and is one 4 letter word around another.

Sorry Loge, you beat me to it - at least I know my extra letters are OK, I just wish I knew what they mean.

That's fine Gitto. If you've got the first word of the message, do a Google search. One of the first links that come up should help.

Thanks, Loge and Gitto. Inadequate cricketing knowledge!

33a - I originally had B from "bling" as the extra letter - I know it has to be L to fit the message but if the parsing is the "endless" words bl IN g iTs and hOt then wouldn't B be the extra letter?

The "endless" instruction gives you (b)LIN(g) but you only need the IN, so the L is extra. That's how O saw it, anyway.
