Oh, just saw it. Thematic and tacky.

The ones that had the thematic letters inserted twice were tricky. Took me awhile to get 1d also.

Just one I can't parse: 5d. I get the h for held first and ut for note of scale, so where does the a come from and what is the extra letter?

5 Down held = past tense of to have (3 letters). Last letter of this word is extra.

last 2 letters of the entry give a word which is an old version of DOH as in first note of scale.

I have a full grid including the four thingies which could be towns in
a Yorkshire b Lancashire c Scotland d New Zealand
I've identified a key element in 11 entries
I have the message (5, 8. / 5, 5, 2, 4) which could (alternatively) be

TEASE USED / AWNING EXTRA PACINO EARL

I've used my erasable writing implement. I know what it all means and I have the correct number of further cells

What is the leaded grid supposed to represent? Mine just looks like a mouse maze.

If you google all 4 together you should find another commonality. Look at the noun meanings of your first word from the message.

I was underwhelmed by the final grid.

Yeah Buddy, as I said I know what it all means, including the "commonality" to which you refer, but I was trying to avoid saying that they are the names of B_ _ B _ _ S, by making an alternative allusion.

My main query was about what the final grid should represent.

A radar screen image showing nothing identifiable as a B--B-- because of all the "TEASE" that is being scattered.
