Thanks for the encouragement, Muraria - that and the help your good-self, Drxx and others have been providing should see me over the line 🤞😉

Okay, I fear I may be stumbling at the final fence. I have both sides filled including the thematic clues.

I have the four words the extra letters spell out but I wouldn't exactly call it an "instruction"!

In addition, as far as I can tell, Gary .....and Do... are 50 yrs old and Mary and Ru.... are 100 yrs old but I doubt they're going to be "clue numbers" - what else could it be?

Lastly, I'm not sure of the parsing for the "stores securely" clue - I can see "F(ellow)" and the "internet address" but I can't even find the answer in Chambers, at least not as a specific entry but as a variation on a word meaning "roll up" - is that "stores securely"?

Help!!

Brenda,
I think the consensus was that the relevant anniversary numbers go in the squares at the head of the appropriate 5-letter word in each panel.
Store securely is 2-letter Pixar film + f +the usual 3-letter term for an Internet address

I did get the 3 letter across thanks to everyone here! Then I stood back in amazement at all the following posts. Full of admiration for skill and tenacity, I gave up.

Jogamel, I think you made a wise decision. I stuck with it to the end but wouldn't have got there without all the help. And I found it about as much fun as double maths at school.

Well, I toughed it out and have 2 full grids apart form the top line of each. Got the central downs and understand the significance of them. However, what is supposed to happen with the top lines? I can think of a French term that would be fitting for one grid ' a c.....' but the other? I can get a couple of things that fit.
As for sorting the extra letters I can't make head or tail of the instructions. Do I number each grid starting at 1 or number the first and second consecutively?
Thanks.

granama, the top row of each grid is the surname of someone connected with the entry in its central down column.
