Well guys, I can’t solve a good half of the clues today, let alone make sense of the rest of the instructions. Just to say.....

The single 3 letter across answer was the key for me, jogamel - hope you've got that one.

I found this a slog to start with but it all works out neatly and is very clever. I built up from the SW corner and used trial and error (and a pencil) to put answers in the most likely places in the grid. Some had to be moved of course, but the more clues you solve, the more it will become clear where things go. Sorry if that sounds a bit glib - rest assured, this took me three times as long as this week's Listener. The nine shared answers are a great help especially, as Drxx says, the single 3-letter across answer (which I didn't notice when solving, or I'd have saved quite a bit of time!).

Is that 3 letter answer as easy/obvious as it looks?

It is one of the easier clues, yes. But obviously I don’t know what you’re thinking and don’t want to mislead

I think it's a very one-sided challenge, loge. There are unclued entries, extra letters in some (only 'some' makes it harder too) of the wordplays and it's jigsaw entry! With so many tools in the setter's armoury the clues should have been crisp but there are superfluous words, wordy defs and wordplays with umpteen possibilities. I realised I'd have to progress in a 'leap of faith' manner, not something I ever find enjoyable.
Sorry, but for me, the end result hasn't justified the effort - although that part is at least reasonably straightforward, even if the instruction is rather vague (I'm just glad I guessed the right way regarding left/right grids).

nelson - go with the 'leap of faith' approach (unless you haven't abridged a 4 letter word!)
