Can I check that the "weather guys" are a three letter abbr. - one of them an extra letter?

Ah, so we’re not in agreement after all, Drxx. I put the relevant numbers at the start of two identical 5-letter entries.

I have it now. I was looking for an Irish-Gaelic old friend, as you hinted at #18 and 30!

loge mentioned the 'old friend' lumen - it had me wondering too!

yes, I thought of that too, loge - but I opted for the head positions in the end...probably makes more sense the other way, though (but the same count, of course).

I see it as significant anniversaries, which is why I’ve gone for the 5-letter option. Could be wrong of course, and I’m open to persuasion.

Yes, but anniversaries going from newspaper publication dates (the Yale college mag kicked it off a couple of years earlier, hence the 'ambiguity' I think).

I think that’s the point, and was going by the dates given in Wikipedia. Unless I have missed something, I fear this may be another of those open-ended final stages.
