I read as needing an anagram indicator so changed a letter in the last word.

The second title is eluding me, despite having carefully (but maybe not carefully enough) tried all of wiki's list of 8-letter titles. Is the 8-letter ring surrounding one cell, or surrounding four cells?

It's a separate ring of eight cells, apart from the square. What I did was look at a list of any of his songs that contained a word that could be deemed a synonym of "a circle" and then went from there.

Does 'slightly' in fact mean colouring twice the number of cells referred to in the second sentence of the preamble?

All done with one query re 34a. I can only fit the typo to the second word but it doesn't give a very smooth surface. Am I right?
Regarding the expanded colouring, the instructions only result in one coloured square (the rest is just find a description, draw a circle and amend the grid) so I guess there is only one option.
