Thanks, Orson - I can't read and type at the same time, especially not from the big heavy Chambers!

I think son1ofrover1 is right regarding where the clue splits - 'of us' gives the last 3 letters of the second answer (with its first letter unclued). The 'neighbours' are other words (as part of the def).

Your replies have helped. Can you just clarify if my answer for “entertainer” 14d goes on the LHS or RHS. I think I have errors on entries.

Thanks, drxx. I hope I haven't muddled jogamel too much. The hints themselves were pretty generous!

I'm sure your hints did the trick, malone (but you know how boring I can be over the minor details).

Jogamel, I may be wrong but I think thr right hand side has somehing to do with Bowie's 'All the young .....'.
Can't help with the other side yet.

Oh, and, if I'm right the division is between slashes and foppish.

Granama1 is right about the division in the 13 acrosses. The definition for the LHS clue is "slashes" in the sense of the symbol /. If you find that the parsing will fall into place.

The other side is a slang word for to insult surrounded by a standard crossword word for hesitation. First letter is unclued.
