Perhaps "living" should have been included, Rosalind!

Most fossils don't actually have common names.

Despite other recent posts on the Forum, there will be no Spam on offer in the café this week. There will be the usual range of coffees, teas and home-baking. The topics of conversation can be just as varied, feel free to debate, discuss, moan, praise...

PS The Spam will, I hope, disappear soon.

A Cafe question.
Can anyone explain the purpose of algebra and square roots being taught in schools? I am retired and don’t think I have ever used them at home or at work, although I believe they might be useful in Engineering.
I really would like to know!

Algebra has too many unknowns for my liking!

Square roots are suitable for square pots but can be squeezed into round ones.

Q:

Does anybody here attempt the daily Irish Times cryptic set by “Crossheir”? Especially thinking about the special Saturday variant … I notice that it does not have its own sub-thread, too small an audience?

@ igravious
I suggest putting your question on the main crossword forum, as not everyone would visit the cafe
