Brendan, glad you got there. Google took me straight to the right place yesterday, sorry you had to rummage around.

No problem Malone.

Did you see my query on the other thread regarding the seeming duplication of sets in 5d and 33d - they're both types of anniversary but all the other sets are one of a kind - is that right?

Thanks, Brendan. Yes, I saw the anniversary stuff and the follow-up.

Brendan, the Hebrew Bible has many more than three books. It has three sections - the Law (Torah), the Prophets (Nevi'im) and the Writings (Ktuvim). The book you are looking for is in Writings.

I've managed to complete the puzzle thanks to many of the hints from this forum. However, I'm still confused by 35d. I have the answer with o as the middle letter but can't work this out from the wordplay which I think suggests the letter should be an a. Any enlightenment would be very welcome.

Numbskull, check one of the later entries for O in Chambers.

That was very tough. Had to guess 19 and relieved to see from the posts here I was right, would never have got that.

Not sure anyone has answered S Pugh from way back at post 20? I think the reason the setter didn't put any words in columns 2/11 is that if the did they would have created words with no unches - all of the across answers on the left from 25 to 43 (incl 42) have col 2 as their only unch. For many purists words with no unches are undesirable, partly because you can finish the crossword without solving every clue. When you submit a crossword the editors check 'overunching' and 'underunching'.

Malone, thanks for your help. I don't have a copy of Chambers, something which I need to address as I'm becoming addicted to the Listener.

Thanks, Numbskull. The entry says - '(as a medieval Roman numeral) 11'. Chambers really is invaluable for many of the puzzles, and especially Listener.
