Thanks ginge.

I got the other word for while, though not sure of parsing.

2a answer begins with A.
So 2d answers, one starting with S and another with F conflict.
I can find three Guernsey parishes that are 4 letter long. None of them can go after F.
Frown is the only word that may mean lower.

Hi sunray. This will be no help but I can't parse 42a either! Cracked 75% of the grid but the SE corner is proving problematic.

Granama1.

Leading Character in love would be L.
L with abrupt abstraction follows A.
So I can see AL.
But why the 6 letters mean with abrupt abstraction?

Also which word(s) is the overlap?

BTW, I only have very few answers.

I switched to IQ and about 90% complete.

I think 'from' might be a mistake sunray - 'of' gives the single vowel that begins an old word (Spenser's) for, 'to lower' - and the Guernsey parish starts with V.

...the 'abstraction' is the mental kind (7 letters) - 'abruptly' = shortened.

Thanks drxx.
I did figure out 2d and used the "V" parish.

Keep on forgetting that abrupt means shortened version.
Now it makes sense.

Have come to a complete stop.

Hints on 29a and 10d may provide a nudge.

29a. Outing fatigues medic, who finally veers off (7)

10d. In the primaries, was our Republican
previously your local Democratic mayor? (6)

29 - anag of C+O+VEERS ('fatigues' 'drudgery' of sorts).

Hi drxx, à is given in Chambers as from (as well as of) as in the example given: Thomas à Kempis.
