It's the only thing I have left, but for the life of me, I can't work it out. It must be a double definition of tone/lower ? A further nudge please ?

Could anyone confirm that 11ac is one of the overlapping clues? I'm sure it must be but can't work out the non-grid answer. Ta.

Hi planks, yes it is. The non-grid entry includes an apostrophe.

Thanks mattrom and ginge.
I now have one of the words each for 42a and 2d.
But they both do not seem to be grid entries.
42a: Begins with M, Need hint on the second word.
2d. Have the SH???word but need hint on the second word.

Got 8d. (Had to look up that meaning of dry)

Much appreciated.

Hi again sunray, remember the preamble gives you the first letters of the 6 non-grid entries.
42a. While is the definition
2d. the definition is the overlapping word "lower" and it's a Spenser (Ed) variation, "from" gives the 1st letter and the name of a parish in Guernsey provides the remainder.
