Hi Stumped and Mamya

I've finally got the F. Hurrah!!

But I'm now in a quandary about the Z and the H answers. I thought the Z was Ziggurat, which can be spelt Zikkurat according to my dictionary, though I couldn't parse the clue. (in which dozing beggar mourns deaths, all in the centre of this stepped tower) . But that precludes the H going where I've put it. What have I done wrong?

Hi Roof

I've just joined, having enjoyed reading jazzgirl's contributions particularly.

If you look at the centres of 'dozing beggar mourns deaths', I think you can see that your initial thought was correct, and therefore your idea about H (whatever that was) must be wrong. (I also had to correct a premature placement when I sorted out this clue.)

On the thematic solution for M, I agree that the solution ending in S is better aesthetically, but the word 'that' in the clue is superfluous unless Maskarade really meant you to use 'ie' rather than 'is' in the anagram. The clue actually reads better without it. Therefore, I've reluctantly concluded that the solution ending in E is the right one.

Hi all. My first 'contribution' this time. I haven't read everything but dipped in over the weekend. I remember drawing stepped buildings beginning with z at primary school many years ago so am sure I have that OK but I can't parse it (or find where to put it.) This is definitely not my favourite sort of puzzle. I like the ones where the difficulty is in being led to think one way and then realising that the 'pop singer' you have been looking for is not a pop singer but that pop is lemonade or Dad or that the singer is a sewing machine - ones where you I think 'O YES, of course!' not, after loads of googling 'Oh I suppose it has to be that although I've never heard of it but it's the only word that fits.'
So, I need help, please. Is the thematic G at 1 Down or much further down ending in the non-thematic J? Is the non-thematic N in the bottom left quarter, cutting across the thematic C and the non-thematic D? Does the thematic E end in the non-thematic 4 letter L?
Oh, and where can I put my stepped building? Thanks for help with any of this.

Is the thematic G at 1 Down or much further down ending in the non-thematic J...No, it's lower right

Is the non-thematic N in the bottom left quarter, cutting across the thematic C and the non-thematic D?...No, top left

Does the thematic E end in the non-thematic 4 letter L?...Yes

Oh, and where can I put my stepped building? ...Lower left, giving the placement for thematic G

Good Morning rpchambe
The stepped tower goes 4th row from the bottom. Its pairs of letters are taken from the centre pairs of letters of "dozing beggar mourns death" . The thematic G goes down from the 2nd g of the stepped tower. The non-thematic N in 2nd row from the top. Thematic E ends in O. Have I missed anything out from your query ? I need breakfast :)
