Thanks Jazzgirl. I've got the thematic O, it's the non thematic one I'm struggling with. I have O??????US. I think the second letter is A. I hope you enjoyed Montalbano. I've just been struggling with a new invasion of bind weed, not very successfully. I must get on top of it earlier next year. Any hints for the non thematic B. It starts BI and I have no idea.

The non-thematic O is two words - and I don't have 'us' at the end. It's not an anagram, but involves moving a letter (from a sailing vessel).

I'm trying to think of a hint for the Bi one...

Jazzgirl gave this as an anagram of 'ie' (that is) and 'many'. Does that mean that her answer ends with the letter e?
I rather think that it is an anagram of ' is' and 'many' which would give the answer ending in the letter s. 'That' is only being used as a word which links the two clues. What do others think?

Where I have fitted the answer into the grid the last letter is unchecked.
The s version is a person while the e version seems to be a race or descendants of M----s.
