This has been a fascinating discussion, both in respect of the individual entries and the thoughts about crosswords in general. I am an octogenarian, but could not be further from being a Classics scholar. But I enjoy a real challenge such as this one, so long as I have some chance of completing it.
I started very slowly, and was helped by some of the early hints. However, I have ended up with some problems that have not been addressed by others.
First, I still do not fully understand the theme instructions, about ignoring small child, despite Jazzgirl's explanation. The seven letter X solution is the name of a god, and yet it is fully defined as the capital of Lycia. Is it a themed or non-themed solution? And I can't find a solution, themed or non-themed, that makes sense for the four letter X.
The others that I don't have are both the Ks, and the non-themed F, for which I have *R*E*E*

Hi jaffra
I haven't bothered with this, but I guessed what jazzgirl was hinting at with the missing child, and found a 4-letter X with Aztec associations.

Having reread my post, I have realised the solution to F. It really is so simple, I don't know why I didn't see it immediately. That still leaves X and the Ks.

The 7-letter unthemed X is an ancient capital of Lycia parsed as X (cross) 2letters for 'a" + 4 letters for 'so'

Sorry for posting in bits, but ipad playing up. Now on laptop.
The 4-letter themed K has already been shown, so it is KAMA (Hindu God of erotic desire) KA + MA(de)

Thanks, Jazzgirl. As someone previously said, you are a star.
All clear now. In fact I was nearly there in all of them, but couldn't quite pin them down. Still think Xanthus was confusing.

Could someone let me have a hint for the non-themed P? I have P*E*I*A*. "Imaginative" might be POETICAL, I suppose, but i can't see a "novelist" or anything (except maybe the final L) for "money".
