Yes, Rosalind, I think I'll be fine.
A challenge to overcome!

Elle, I spotted an ad, I think from the British Heart Foundation?
They were after used furniture. That would be a better choice than the dump.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, the British Heart Foundation would be happy to accept your unwanted wardrobe - they also take electrical goods, which many Charities do not.
Furthermore, they will come and collect - so that would save you having to transport it yourself - either to them or to the dump.
They sell the furniture in their shops and the proceeds go the BHF.
A worthy cause.
I'm sure you will be fine, assembling your new wardrobe, with or without assistance from your sons!
I have calmed down somewhat from my encounter with Hotpoint's Customer Services - but I think I am within my rights to ask them for a full twelve month's (replacement) guarantee - as I was given a faulty product in the first instance.
Don't you agree?
Chinese food for dinner...... duck and egg fried rice. Scrumptious!

Hello, Elle.
I may try BHF with a phone call and see what the craic is.
I have an idea charity shops are not allowed to sell electrical goods?
Anyway, no rush, not for a week or so.
Hotpoint were on Twitter earlier saying they had a veritable virago on the phone, howling holy murder!
I sincerely hope that was not you?
No, I cannot agree with you.
They fixed your dodgy machine.
But others may agree with you.
Duck and fried eggs is another dish I have never tried.
Bit fancy for us folks North of the Border!

it used to be the case about electrical items, rusty. I think the charities were more worried about faulty goods.

I'm afraid I agree with rusty, elle. If you had a new car and the clutch went after 2 years, you wouldn't expect them to increase the guarantee by 2 years (my car has 5 years) would you? Hotpoint weren't aware their machines were faulty, as far as I know.

The gasman didn't turn up. I waited a week or more for him to get back to me, a few days for the appointment and he still didn't keep it. There will be another virago on the phone!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, you are perfectly correct in saying that most charity shops do not sell electrical goods, but you will find that the BHF definitely does ( my friend is the secretary of our local branch)
I hope you can sort something out with them.
Now, regarding Hotpoint........
Perhaps I didn't explain clearly ........the relevant tumbler dryers - Hotpoint , Indesit and Creda - were sold as new - and then found by the manufacturers themselves to have an inherent fault.
It has been all over the News - including showing burnt out machines in people's homes!
Recent buyers, such as I, were approached by the companies to check our model numbers and told that modifications would be carried out on the affected machines.
This has now been done on my machine, and hopefully it is now safe to use.
It was not the public that raised this issue, but the manufacturers of the machines, who wished to recall them.
To my mind, that invalidates the pre-existing guarantee and a new one needs to be issued in its place, dated from the modification.
All clear now?

Hello, Elle,
Yes, it is perfectly clear, but I do not agree with you.
The manufacturer fixed a known fault irrespective of guarantee.
Well done them.
The car industry in USA has been rife with potentially lethal faults on vehicles. Remember Ralph Nader?
I remember one vehicle which was very prone to going on fire if it was shunted from the rear.
The manufacturer kept this quiet and decided to fight in court in the event of any claims against them, rather than correct the fault. Fixing it at assembly was going to cost a few pennies per car.
In your case Hotpoint fixed your machine.
Had they kept quiet it could have gone on fire with horrendous
consequences.
If it happened to me, my attitude would be "well done, Hotpoint" and move on. Amen.
How was the duck for tea?

Hi, Rusty!
Oh dear! well, we are not going to agree on this as I think I - and others similarly affected - am entitled to a year's guarantee as from the fault being remedied. That to me is fair and logical.
But hey, let's not dwell on this any further, but just agree to differ?
After all, everyone cannot hold the same viewpoints on all things...........
To change the subject......the duck was splendid!
I very much enjoy both Chinese and Indian food. In fact, I think the plan is for "Ladies who Lunch" to go Chinese this week! That would be good!
I am now reading a novella - again by KathyReichs - which is added to the end of my present book.
She has dedicated this work to all those who perished in the Nepal earthquakes of April 25, May 12, 2015, and also to all those who responded to help with the aftermath.
It is a topical story.

Hello, Elle,
No, can't see us agreeing.
My view is that what Hotpoint are doing, in some cases, of machines which are twelve years old, has nothing remotely to do with guarantees.
Do you think a twelve years old machine should get a new guarantee? Of course it should not.
There lies madness!

Hi, Rusty,
I am only asking for a year's guarantee to cover the new remedial work done on the machine........
I cannot see how this is unreasonable?

But look, I am waving a large white flag!
I hate having a disagreement with you......... peace?

I don't like going to bed on an argument ........
