Hi, Rusty!
I've measured the necessary width and depth for the appliances, but we can be somewhat flexible for the height, as we are going to have a new cupboard specially made to fit above the fridge and freezer. This will match as near as possible (we hope) to our existing kitchen units.
The refitment of that corner of the kitchen is something that we have been planning for a while.
We might as well strike while the iron is hot - or something like that!
I listened to the Weavers singing "Good night, Irene" but decided that I like it better sung as a solo. rather than several voices.
But I'm still going around singing "Top of the World"!
Unfortunately, I'm not a very ....er...tuneful...singer.....! !

Hello, Elle,
As long as you are happy singing, that's the main thing.
Do you set the dog off?
Are you getting a joiner to build your cupboard?
I have listened to my first prog on DAB wireless, and the tone was excellent. Pleased with my purchase!
It was easy to get going.
My son told me the latest thing is Internet radio.
Yes, I know what you mean about a solo voice.
Did you like Ronnie Gilbert?

Hi, Rusty!
No, my singing does NOT set the dog howling!
Although we did once have a cat that used to join in - we caterwauled together !
Yes, we have the name of a very good joiner who made some cupboards for our elder daughter. So that is one problem sorted! We can just ring him to come and measure up once the new appliances are in place.
I hope he isn't as busy as your joiner is, though! I'm afraid that I don't have your patience - once I decide on doing a thing, I like it to be done there and then!
I'm glad that your new radio is a success and that you like it.
I haven't heard of Internet radio? Should I have done so?
I don't know much about Ronnie Gilbert - I heard her when she was singing with The Weavers - but they were not a group with which I was very familiar. I like Pete Seeger.

Hello, Elle!
My joiner is going to do all his "small jobs" in a week.
My door is a small job.
Do not know which week though!
My philosophy is, a busy joiner is a good sign and we have plenty time
I know nothing about Internet radio.
Ronnie was a great contralto and was singing well into her eighties. Like Pete Seeger and the rest of the Weavers she suffered during the McCarthy era because she was politically minded. As an old lady she was still campaigning. The lady had grit as well as that beautiful voice.
She is up there among my favourite singers like Joan Baez and Emmylou.
Have you looked online at the fridges?

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I've had a quick glimpse online, but didn't see what I wanted. I hope to fare better in person tomorrow. We have two branches of Currys within easy (driveable) reach of us.
I've had an email this evening from my younger daughter, telling me that our tumbler dryers may be a potential fire hazard! (we have the same make and model)
She didn't say how she had found out? but sent a reference for me to look up - I put in the model number and serial number of my tumbler dryer - and yes, unfortunately, mine is one of the suspect one that needs to be recalled!
I've since had a return email from the manufacturer saying that an engineer will come within five weeks to modify the machine and that meanwhile I can continue to use it provided I 'supervise' it!
Seemingly , it is only a small modification that will take about an hour.
I have been very pleased with the machine, too. I only bought it in April - you may remember the demise of my 42 year-old Creda!
Whatever next?

Hello, Elle!
I came across that a couple of days ago.
I think it is if there is a build up of lint/fluff it is possible it could ignite. Make sure the lint catcher thingy is not clogged with fluff. It is usually in the door.
Currys may even give you advice about your tumbly dryer?
I think it will be a simple fix.
Well, I hope you see what you are looking for at Currys.
I have a fridge but not a freezer.
Be watchful if you decide to purchase anything.
They tried to sell me extra coverage or something, which I declined in a graceful manner.

Good morning, Rusty!
It's a very wet one, although the weather forecast was showing sunshine when I checked earlier! Relatively mild, though.
How is it in your neck of the woods?
I have the tumbler dryer on as I write this - but, as I always clean the filter each time after I've used the machine, hopefully we shall survive until the modification is carried out.
We are going over to Currys soon to check out the fridges and freezers. Hopefully we shall find what we want - preferably a bargain! .......but I'll settle for the right sized appliances for the space in which I want to put them!!

I bought a laptop from Currys and wished I hadn't. Got absolutely pestered to buy the insurance, which I had said right from the beginning I didn't want. I would have walked out except my younger son was with me and has very little time to spend helping his Mum make purchases! I asked if there was a deal with Word 2013 (outright purchase) and the chap came back "If you buy the insurance...." I guess the salesmen make their money on these products.
This happens even if you buy online and go to the shop to collect. My son went with his 2 young children to collect a laptop, the wait was so long one child was squirming with desire to go to the loo, but still the salesman didn't give up.
If there is a next time , I will start "One word about insurance and I will walk out straight away" and do it!!!
If you buy a new car outright, without HP, you get the "I have to tell you about the finance plan..." I told one guy if he continued, I would cancel the sale even though I'd lose my deposit! "But it's my job".... So I have to waste about ten minutes while he goes through the spiel to keep his job?? Reader, I didn't and the Clio was excellent for 10 years, when I sold it.

Hi everyone,

The insurance situation for appliances is exactly the same here; when you buy a domestic appliance, it usually comes with a one-year or a two-years warranty included in the price - but then the vendors do all they can to make you sign (at a price) for a '5-year extended warranty; Now, on certain items such as washing machines, very often there is no problem for the first two years but all of a sudden, and particularly if you make great use of your machine, just after the end of the 2-year guarantee you start having problems with pump, or belt etc... It is as though the manufacturers plan this by installing parts that only have a 2year life time.

Good morning, Elle!
My neck of the woods has had hard frost and areas of black ice.
It is cloudying (is that a word?) over now though.
Your dryer should be fine, as long as you remove the fluff, in my inexpert opinion!
Good luck with the fridge and freezer, and ignore the insurance and warranty and "peace of mind" stuff!
Looking forward to hear how your adventure goes!
