Hello Elle, If you do get a gas fire as an emergency backup, by law and not to invalidate your insurance and guarantee, it has to be fitted by a "gas safe" fitter. Also I would recommend I traditional style gas fire. They're a lot more economical than those cosmetic living flame effect fires and a lot more long lasting. We had one and it looked very nice but burned out comparatively quickly

Hi, Rusty!
Goodness, the telephone just woke me up! I was supposed to be reading! I think I must have slept the best part of an hour (or two?)
Blame it on the warmth of the house! (at last!)
I wasn't planning on our installing a gas fire by ourselves - we will obviously get a fitter - but I think we might have to get a special type/design of fire because of our lack of chimney?
I shall do some research on Google! and visit the Gas showroom........
I have been looking up Joe Hill ......I am sure you will enjoy reading a book about him.
The only printable thing I have to show for today is the completion of the Everyman puzzle! but still one to parse... I'm working on it.....
Heavens, look at the time... just realised, I've missed half the tennis final.......

Elle, make sure you get expert advice about your fire.
And several opinions.
It is quite cold here.
I told you about Lexi Thompson, the golfer who gave a little girl her shoes? I put a wee bet on her and she is going along nicely.
Just one shot off the lead with a few holes to play.
Fingers crossed for her!

Hi, Rusty!
I caught the second set......it's a weird tournament where they only play best of three sets?
Sadly, Roger Federer lost to Djokovic...but what a match! Novak played brilliantly and Roger found himself outplayed today.
All credit to the winner.
Yes, I remember your telling me about Lexi giving her golf shoes to the little girls.....how is she doing?

Hi, Chris!
At present, I am reading about women at war in the Services- ATS, WRNS and WAAF.
Believe me , it is light relief after "Pi"!
I can read "Nation" after that!
What are YOU reading at the moment?

I'm reading a late P D James - "The private patient". So far I'm amazed by how badly it is written.

Recently though, I re-read "The devonian controversy" by Martin Rudwick. Facinating, especially as I originally came from North Devon, where some of the most controversial rocks occur.

Hi rusty
I was watching the Ladies' golf yesterday. Lydia Ko had a double bogey, and the commentators said it was her first since 2013.

She's only 18 now!

I usually enjoy the Adam Dalgleish series, but haven't read that one.
I used to wonder at how many grammatical mistakes etc got through the proof readers, but then I did a course in proof reading! I passed with flying colours, but was exhorted in practice to let most mistakes go through!
I found I just couldn't do it! I had to give it up!
