Afternoon, Rusty!
A great walk this morning, but can do without the pavement pounding to get to the 'green, open spaces'!(Come back car, all is forgiven!)
I'm watching the Athletics at the moment but might be tempted to switch to the tennis later- or seesaw between the two.... annoying that the two events clash....
I've had to google Megan Boyd as I've never heard of her. A fly tier? You were doing that yourself the other evening? Do you use them yourself? - or were they for your son when he goes salmon fishing?
Finished the Everyman quite quickly this week - must be getting used to the new compiler!
Back to concentrating on the Athletics...... a bad business about the query doping allegations regarding Mo's coach - distressing for everyone till it's sorted.....

Elle, Megan was a legend in the fly-tying world.
Prince Charles was a devotee.
I am not good at it.
But, my son is. He even sells some to American folk.
He combines the salmon fishing and fly-tying.
I think this doping permeates every sport and I find it sickening. Wawrinka did very well. Sir Wiggo broke the Hour record this evening, too.
Let's hope there is positive news about your car tomorrow!
Farah did not run. Not good for the spectators.

Rusty, your son must be somewhat of an expert if he sells his flies to the Americans! Is it a serious money-making business? or just a hobby?
Do you fish yourself?
The doping charge against Mo's coach is such a pity, as Mo feels it casts a shadow over himself, whether warranted or not. I think he should have run today, don't you? it would have been better policy. No that one should think in those terms, but it's inevitable under the circs.
Yes, Wawrinka did brilliantly - I 'dipped into' the match off and on , but mostly watched the Athletics. I did watch the entire final set though. You have to hand it to Djokovic , he is so gracious in defeat.
I'm hoping that we do get the car back tomorrow in working order, all this is extra exercise is proving a bit too much! (tho' I'll get a lift in the morning!)

Elle, he is an expert fly fisher. Has represented Scotland in competitions. But it is just a hobby.
The fly-tying is the same. I think he started putting flies on eBay and that brought interest from American fishermen. But, he has a partnership in a business in the building trade. He is a grafter!
I took him fishing when he was a wee boy and he was "hooked"!
I showed him where Georgina Ballantine caught her great fish on the Tay etc, but I am not keen myself!
I like trout to eat, though!

Morning, Rusty!
At least today I had a lift to where we meet up for early morning dog-walking! It's not so much the extra exercise (!) that I mind, but the time element fitting it all in! My day is full enough as it is!
Trout fishing? I've always thought of salmon as the main source of fish in the Tay. I love trout (but not the bones!)
In Pakefield (where we go every November) the fishermen usually catch cod or whiting - the latter seems very popular around there - fishing from the beach.
Did you decide what to read? I've just started on "1914..." I hadn't known how the name 'Thomas Atkins' came into being for the common (average)British soldier...I do now!
Lovely day here - have you got anything nice planned?

Rusty, a not so tricky clue for you in today's Times cryptic crossword...
5 D. One wanting trout, perhaps if freshly prepared (3-6).

Malone, I find that if you have been speaking about something, it will turn up in a crossword in a day or two!
Fly fisher. Anagram of "if freshly".
I don't suppose "red button" is in it, too!

Elle, I am confusing you!
It IS salmon my son fishes for, but he started fishing for trout as a young boy and moved up to salmon.
For eating, I much prefer trout to salmon.
For interest, the three biggest salmon caught by rod and line in GB, were taken by women.
Miss Ballantine, Doreen Davey, and "Tiny" Morison.
And Lettice Ward had a 50 lb salmon on the Tay.
So, there is something for the fair sex to boast about!
The Tay IS known for salmon (those that get past the dolphins and seals!) but a good river for trout, too.
No word on your car?
Great shame about the young girl in the fairground accident losing her leg. Such a bonnie girl, too.
