Elle, glad my suggestion worked - it was something my son showed me two Wimbledons ago!

Morning, Rusty!
A glorious day - blue skies , sunshine, very warm already. How is it in your neck of the woods?
Yes, we can manage fine without the car; we just have to walk everywhere! or catch a tram or a bus!
We walked to the nearest (big) park this morning with the dog. It adds about forty-five minutes onto the morning walk so not too bad.
I think Malone has solved my red button problem by providing the number of the appropriate channel which works when I key it in! So simple when you know what to do ( my husband is worse than I am at this sort of modern technology , so no help there!)
Thanks too for all your help! Much appreciated!
Today I have to decide whether to watch the Men's unfinished tennis match from yesterday, or the Athletics fourth Diamond League. Mmmmm......
Have you anything special planned for the weekend?

"A glorious day - blue skies, sunshine, very warm"?
Elle, that is exactly what I don't have!
Cloudy, rain, and high winds up here.
You have trams?
When I was a boy my bicycle front wheel used to get stuck in the tramline and I would set sail over the handlebars. Lethal things!
Yes, Malone has turned up trumps!
Technology and me don't get on either.
But, there's always the young ones, and Buenchico!
I shall watch the Derby later today, and the golf in the evening.
Tomorrow, I shall watch Brad Wiggo's attempt on the hour record.

Rusty, hope your weather has improved over the day?
My viewing has worked out well. I decided to watch the semi final of the Men's tennis first.... despite Andy Murray's regaining control to take the fourth set, Djokovic soon dispatched him in the fifth to win the match.
So I was then able to watch the remainder of the fourth Diamond League.
And there is more Athletics tomorrow when it's the Sainsbury's Grand Prix in Birmingham!
How is /was the Derby? Did you have a preferred favourite?
I'm just been waiting to see the end of the women's tennis before taking out the dog. I was all set to go when it looked as though Serena would win in two straight sets, but Lucy Safarova has now taken the second set... the dog may just have to play ball in the garden this afternoon! Too exciting to leave !

Not being on the forum as often lately meant that I didn't see the 'offending' thread, but I would just like to add that I don't really see why there is a problem, it's a simple matter of scrolling past, especially as I believe that the thread content was explicitly titled, so that nobody could doubt that it was not crossword related. One of the things I have always liked about this forum in particular is that there are diversions and 'persiflage' on it, and it has always been (bar a few incidents) a friendly and diverse place. It saddens me that some people would report something like this when there are so many other more pressing things to focus on in this world. As on any forum or social media platform it is quite simple to scroll past something which you are not interested in and I think that deleting diverse threads takes away a little of what made this forum unique.

Yes, Elle, it has got better.
It is dark now, but I can't hear the wind.
My horse did not win but ran well.
I was pleased that John Gosden trained the winner.
I like him.
Plenty tennis on today.
I watched a bit of Murray's game.
Now, are we all safe from Red Buttons?
Am I mistaken or was Red Buttons an actor?
Maybe not.
I am not sure which book to tackle next.
I am glad to see the back of Teddy Kennedy!
Maybe start 1914 again!

Hi Sally
Nice of you to pop in.
I believe there were complaints because the 'offending' thread was a long very pleasant conversation between two people. That's the only reason it was deleted.
I saw absolutely no harm in it and completely agree with your comments.
So it seems that now it's 'the more the merrier'!

Morning, Rusty!
The tennis was great - and the Mens' Doubles Final was fantastic - neither couple deserved to lose; it was a well fought battle!
Yes, you are right, Red Buttons was an American comedian, I think? maybe an actor also?
And the trams? You know, I'm sure I've mentioned these before - very streamlined , fairly quiet, running mostly on old railway tracks between here and Croydon? Ring any bells? A great mode of transport!
Athletics this afternoon - will you be watching it?
My order from Amazon arrived yesterday - three books now, one more to come when the paperback is released.
Still got "1914" to read, too. That 's next on my list.
We're off out now on another 'trek' - goodness, hope we get the car back soon ( and besides, we need it to go look for another one!)
Dare I say we have another lovely day here?!

Very windy up here, Elle, but a fine day.
The trams were hiding behind the red buttons in my memory bank. I remember now!
Your trams seem completely different from the ones I remember. Ours were noisy and draughty.
And we were delighted to see the back of them.
I know the name Red Buttons but that is it.
I have no idea what he was in.
Not sure about the athletics.
I have a prog recorded for some time I would like to watch. Documentary called "Kiss the Water" about Megan Boyd.
And cycling and golf later.
Hectic!
