Hi, Rusty!
I might have known that you would know all about Douglas McArthur!! I didn't know that there was a memorial to him at the beach there.
You are a veritable fount of knowledge! It must be from all this factual reading that you do. I am learning a lot from you.
I have read Lyn MacD 's book "Somme" - I don't know the other book you mention by Martin Middlebrook? Do the two books vary in content? Is there any advantage to my reading a second book about the Somme?
I have very much enjoyed reading Lyn's accounts of the War - I especially like the way she includes extracts from letters and diaries to illustrate the events.
I have just ordered yet another book from Amazon, on Chris' recommendation. I'm doubtful about whether I will like it, but have agreed to give it a try! My son likes Terry Pratchett, but I have never liked him, as I don't like ''fantasy'' - I am assured, however, that this particular book is ''different''.
Watch this space for a verdict......
It was a good thing your introducing me to the 1p books! - thank you!!
I am consequently saving a lot of money - well, actually, I'm not exactly "saving" it, I'm just getting more books for my money!! but then , that's a good thing, isn't it?
Enjoy your outing with Miss La Bamba tomorrow - you will enjoy hearing all about the driving test and her subsequent plans !

Hello, Elle!
The difference in the two Somme books, is that Middlebrook's book is only about the 1st of July 1916, while Lyn's book covers the whole battle. They are both excellent.
The vast majority of my books cost 1 penny. Even the ones coming from the USA. The dust bowl one that came from Ohio via France, yesterday, was 1 penny, and superbly packaged, too.
Well done, the Yanks!
Miss La Bamba has Uni after the bacon roll, so we shall have to watch our time. I am looking forward to hearing the "tale of the test"!

Good Afternoon, Rusty!
Another dreich day here! I hope you are faring better with your weather?
A busy day today as a friend dropped in for coffee fairly early this morning, and then I went out to lunch as it's Thursday ("Ladies Who Lunch")
We went to an Indian restaurant today - we try to ring the changes where possible!
Delicious meal! I had a vegetable dupiaza.
How was your outing with Miss La Bamba? Did you have the ubiquitous bacon roll? (I hope it wasn't a fifteen rasher one?)
Did you hear all about the driving test - and any future plans for a car? (maybe a letter to Santa?)

Dreich here, too, Elle!
We had a nice wee time at Pine Cone!
Miss La Bamba had on a new cardie with a fur collar, all the way from USA!
Very elegant.
Glad you liked your Indian lunch.
Yes, we had bacon rolls! I am going back tomorrow with another granddaughter.
She had no problems on the test.
She is going to get a car. I will get a better idea when I speak to her Dad this evening. I think the Jeep is out. Her Dad told her it is not good to drive. So, she would like a small car.
A Micra, or something like that.
Does your Adblock still work on Hudl? Mine stopped, and I have uninstalled it. So, I am using Firefox browser which has Adblock as an "add-on". Very handy!

Hello Elle, Rusty and Everyone,

Sorry to tell you that my weather has not been wet at all - sunshine this morning, a few clouds this afternoon, but very mild - and the next three days look like 20C with blue sky and sunshine. Normandy, Brittany and the Northern coast of France are under the influence of your low pressure though - but not here, we seem to be protected by a high pressure centred on Eastern Europe.

Rusty, you and your Granddaughter have given me a (nice) earworm ever since you have re-baptised her ! I used to dance on that music but right now I just can't get it out of my head.

Hi, Rusty!
..............and it's still raining! heavily, too, now!
I'm glad you had a nice outing with Miss La Bamba. You will know more about a potential car after you have spoken to your son.
Speaking of the USA.... aren't some of your family meant to be going there sometime soon? I think I remember your mentioning something of that nature.....?
The Adblock on my Hudl is still working fine (fingers crossed!)
I did have a bit of a blip with it last week, when adverts suddenly reared their ugly heads, but after I switched off and logged in again, they had gone as quickly as they had appeared! So far, they haven't been back.......all is well at present - no ads!
I have had emails from Amazon today, telling me that some of my books have been dispatched - hope they arrive soon!

Hi, Pigale!
Well, it's nice to hear that at least some-one is having nice weather ! although it makes me very envious! (I'm packing my bags to come over!)
Chris mentioned having sunshine yesterday - I wonder if he is still having good weather in the NW?
Ritchie Valens sang "La Bamba" ! but I cannot recall the tune - perhaps it as well as otherwise there would be two of us with "ear-worm"!

This morning an ARGOS van parked right across my (ordinary suburban) driveway, completely blocking me in. The driver would not move the 10 feet necessary to drive out, though it still would have been very dangerous as I wouldn't have been able to see if the road was clear, at the top of a hill and on a slight bend.
He would not move, it being "against the law as I'm on my lunch break". He was there for at least half an hour.
My car was clearly visible
What if I had been about to collect a child from nursery school, or had an expensive dentist appointment? What if I had needed to go to A & E?
There is a large village car park, which he must have passed.
I took photos. Does anyone think I should report him to Argos?

Yes, Ros, I think you should very definitely report him to Argos!
In fact, I would have called the police there and then!
I'm sure it must be a legal infringement or somesuch?
It sounds very much as though he was "taking the mickey" saying he couldn't move because he was on his lunch break?

Hello, Pigale!
It is a catchy earworm to have. La Bamba is a favourite tune of mine!
Not such a nice day here. Still warm with you?

Elle, yes some of my family went to USA, and my son and partner got wed in Florida!
Their daughters were bridesmaids.
Took them 22 years to get round to it!
I am delighted, you know. I have some super photos!
That is good of Amazon keeping you in the loop!
I have now switched browsers. Using UC browser now.
It is very fast and has Adblock built into it, so that has solved the Adblock problem.

Rosalind, you seem to have a very contrary, unhelpful, Argos driver!
He was not very thoughtful at all!
