Rusty, we get those phone calls , too.
I had one such call where the caller asked me if could possibly have "forgotten" that I had had an accident!
The dog and lampshade have just chased a fox down the garden! - on that more encouraging note, I shall go to bed!
'Night!

Morning Everyone,

Elle, that's a good sign that dog and lampshade were quite happy to chase a fox last night ! I only goes to prove that she feels all right in herself. Just hope that the lampshade did not disturb her sleep too much - can't imagine having to sleep with one of them around my neck !

Now, how did You sleep ? and how did the dog behave in her walk/run this morning ?

HI Rusty,
Hope your fog has finally lifted - not a healthy weather !
Here, we had a little rain yesterday PM and it's rather overcast at present; not cold, and due to be bright again by tomorrow - hope they are right.

Any plans for the day ?

Good afternoon, Pigale!
Thank you for your enquiry after the patient! She is fine in herself, apart from disliking her "headgear". Eating like a horse and running around the garden like a maniac!
It's a miserable day here - wet earlier and still pretty dark and miserable even though it's mid -afternoon.
Not very inspiring!

Hi, Rusty!
I hope you are experiencing a better day weatherwise in Dundee that we are here. It's dank, dark and intermittently very wet!
I have finally had a browse on Amazon and have ordered a few books.
None of which are likely to appeal to you though, as they are all fiction!
One is yet another book by William Horwood (he of "Skallagrigg" fame, as we were all discussing the other day).
This one is called "Duncton Wood" (and cost me 1p!) and is the first one of a series. I thought I would start with just the one in case I didn't like the genre.
(This particular book comes recommended by Rosalind, although she has said that she doesn't like the others in that series as much)
I shall see how I get on!
The other two book are the latest novels by Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwell. I have read all the previous books in both series.
The characters in these are a forensic anthropologist, and a Chief Medical Examiner in forensic technology, respectively.
Interesting to me!
What have you been up to today?

Hello, Elle and Pigale!
My weather is " fell dreich"!
About 9°C most of the day but wet and depressive.
Doggie seems in good spirits, Elle?
How is your weather, Pigale?
I am out of it with the reading material on here.
Just can't read fiction! I liked Watership Down though.
I am about to tackle my crossword.
But...I shall return!

Hi, Rusty!
I think the weather all over the UK seems to have been dreich today, from what I have been hearing from friends in various parts!
I'm assuming that your fog disappeared at any rate?
I had to smile at your saying "I shall return.....!" You must have been reading more war stories....... wasn't that what General MacArthur said when he left the Philippines?
I've had a very lazy day here today, not really from choice , but I didn't want to take the dog out to the park, so she's been playing in the garden (in between rain showers) and I've been 'confined to barracks ' , keeping an eye on her.
I did two crosswords that my friend sent, and have been reading my book - again not one that you would appreciate - it's a detective story by John Harvey.
I've just discovered that I've still got one Lyn MacDonald to read - I'd been alternating them with other books - and this last one had somehow slipped the net...."1915, the Death of Innocence". You will have read this?

Lovely here in NW England, after the early drizzle cleared - very high quality golf by the four of us this morning (in which my partner and I were soundly beaten!)

Has anyone here read "The buried giant" by Kazuo Ishisguro? I'd be interedted to hear what you thought of it. (Also my pet hate, "The luminaries" by Eleanor Catton.)

Hello Rusty,

Well, today has been real November weather, albeit warmish - 14C or so. High pressure coming back from tomorrow onwards !

I have ordered some ~DVDs from BBC shop, amongst which 'The Crimson Fields'. I know it is not the same as a book, but I like DVDs if they are well done - feels like company in the house. Anyway, it sounded interesting, and so did 'The Mill', though on a totally different subject I think - have you heard of those two in book form?

Hi, Chris!
I'm glad to hear that at least someone has had nice weather! (altho' sorry to hear that you lost at golf!)
I can't help you over your two books, as unfortunately I haven't read either of them. Am I mistaken or is "The Buried Giant" a fantasy? I have a feeling I've heard of it in connection with Tolkien for some reason? I could be way off beam here......
And apart from knowing that "The Luminaries" won the Booker prize, I know nothing else about it. I gather you didn't like it?

Difficult to describe "The buried giant", elle - but "fantasy" is as close as anything.
