Update, Elle!
Just out of curiosity, I had a look on eBay at the Collins English Dictionary.
The ones we bought, (very good condition) are reduced in price by World of Books to £3.89 inc post and packing.
That is excellent value!
Bargains there for some folk!

Rusty, Chambers will always be my favourite - mainly because I've had umpteen of them over the years, and also because I've won five of them in crossword competitions!

Hello, Malone!
I was advised many years ago to get Chambers as it was the best single volume dictionary.
I started out with a paperback one (did not last long) and have had several since.
It is my favourite, I think, but I really like the Collins, too.
I like the proper nouns in Collins.
And I've downloaded the online Collins.
I have the Chambers app on my tablet and 'phone.

Hello, Malone,
Sorry, you did very well winning five Chambers!
I have only ever won one prize.
A £20 voucher for W.H.Smith, for The Times prize puzzle about 15-20 years ago.
And guess what I bought?
Yep! I put the money towards a Chambers Dictionary!

Rusty, I think that was the ideal way to spend your WH Smith voucher … and you've continued to like Chambers ever since! I don't like to sound like a grump, but I do feel today's dictionaries don't last as long as their predecessors did. I have various editions of Chambers that are all decorated/held together with thick brown tape!

Hello, Malone!
My Chambers and Bradford's are held together with brown parcel tape, too!
I think it is a sign of love and affection over the years!
And Chambers contains my very favourite word/definition.
"Taghairm"!

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, that feels better...we ourselves are finally "fed and watered" now.
Neither of us felt like eating earlier, whilst we were awaiting news about our poorly cat.
Yes, visiting is allowed at the surgery..... but only during daytime staffing hours.
So we missed out on that this evening
We shall go to see him tomorrow, if he is not being discharged.
That sounds like a good deal on the Collins dictionaries on eBay.
Didn't we both buy ours from Amazon , though?
I cannot now remember?
And what did we pay?

Hello, Elle!
Yes, good idea to visit the cat.
Hope he's much improved.
I've been watching football.
A fine match. Liverpool won.
I bought my Collins from eBay, I've just checked.
£5.16 on the 8th of January.
From World of Books.
And I thought that was an excellent price!

Hi, Rusty!
Then my Collins also must have come from eBay, because you sent me the link.....
It was a good buy.... I am very pleased with it!
I completely forgot to tell you that I had finally gotten around to watching BGT!
I thought there were some reasonable acts on last Saturday's show?
The young male singer - the second act on stage - was very good.
As, of course, was also the very last singer......
And I thought his story about his brother - present there in a wheelchair - so very sad.......
But I still don't think this should be allowed to be publicised as a part of the show?
The performer should "sink or swim" by his own merits......
No sympathy votes or sob stories.......no matter how genuine.
The "trapeze"- for want of a better description - artistes were astonishing , weren't they?
And however did the guy manage to lift David's weight with just his teeth?
I thought "Angels Inc" were unusual - I could not see how that was possibly done, could you?
Did you have a favourite?

Hello, Elle!
Yes, I watched BGT and I know there were several good acts.
What did "Angels Inc" do?
The young lad singing was very good, but again a hard luck story.
It is just so obvious.
There is at least one a week, now.
It was very sad for his brother, indeed.
I have not seen anyone so far who I'd hope would win.
No Diversity, or Ashleigh and Pudsey, so far.
But who knows what will walk on the stage on Saturday!
