Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I see "jack in ".....
But the botanical names of the plant, to which you were all alluding, were foreign to me!
Thank you for explaining "nowness".......I did not think of that sense of "currency".
How dim of me!
Yes, I know "bill" as meaning a headland......I have been to Portland Bill (in Dorset) many times!
I hope you will enjoy the racing at Aintree - fingers crossed for any small bets that you might have put on.
I am shortly going out for a walk with the dog...……

Hello, Chris!
Ah, I know arum lilies!
And have heard the name 'cuckoo pint', too
Thank you for that!
( I know a bit more than I thought I did!)

Hello, Elle!
It's like a summer's day here!
I do not know the names either, Elle.
I was not sure if "nowness" was a word, but Collins has it.
Racing is great!
Willie won the last race, and I have an interest in Rachael in the next.
She is on an outsider, a horse who was taken out of the National to run in this.
I need her to be in the first six, to profit.

Rusty, glad you're enjoying the racing - and maybe even making a profit too.

Isn't it great that a good clue in today's Times has got people chatting - rather than yesterday's poor-in-parts puzzle? I was relieved that today's crossword showed a welcome return to form. (I thought I'd carry on the horse-racing theme, hope you're impressed!)

Hello, Malone!
Racing is great, and today is profitable, but that does not happen often.
Betting is a mug's game!
Today's puzzle is much better, but The Times did not apologise for yesterday's effort, that I can see.
4d was a very good clue and yes, good to see the chat, and the various names for the plant.
I like your "return to form" Malone.
There's lots of jargon in horse racing!

When I was at university (in the 70s) I spent the long vacs working in a bookie's. I saw what happened to the money!

Rusty, I've a brother with a keen interest in horse-racing. He's smart enough to know the odds (overall) always favour the bookies, and places only moderate bets.

It would have been good to see a little apology for yesterday's errors, but we didn't get one!

Hello, Malone!
My bets are small fun bets for a bit of interest, that's all.
I do quite a few bets on various sports, like golf, skiing, cycling, as well as the horses.
But only bets that I can watch on television.
An apology from The Times should have been forthcoming.
You'd expect them to have some manners!
They send me an email every Saturday morning about their various puzzles, including a piece by crossword editor, Richard Rogan.
Wonder if he will mention it?

Hello Rusty
I saw some of the racing. It was "ladies day" apparently. It was nice to see the local "ladies" in thin dresses, and nothing else, on a very cold day.
