Hi again, Rusty!
You are right about an expert swordsman having been ordered form Calais to execute Anne Boleyn. It was deemed more merciful as a swift cut from a sword was much quicker and cleaner than a blow from the more customary axe.
The interesting and disturbing thing here though is that the swordsman was ordered some time before Anne's trial - as otherwise it would have taken a long time to get him here, and the death sentence would have been delayed in being carried out.
And Cromwell didn't want Henry to have time to change his mind.
So it must have been pre- planned that Anne would receive the death sentence? She was pre-judged before her trial?
I must do some research on Amazon to see if I can find a book about her!
St Peter ad Vincula means "St Peter in chains". Vinculum is the Latin for bond, fetter, chain ,prison.
Did you find a snake to unblock your sink? it's a complicated way to do it though , isn't it , because you have to approach it from underneath the sink? Wouldn't a plunger have worked? we usually manage to unblock ours with that.
How far have you got with the Chromebook?

Thank you, Rosalind!
So, why St Peter in Chains? I am sure there will be an explanation at the Tower!
You are correct in your statement on execution methods.
And several blows to the neck were not uncommon with the axe.
Jack Ketch and his predecessors were not noted for their skill!
I think that was the reason for a French executioner being brought to England to execute Anne Boleyn.
An efficient execution without fuss, was what Henry wanted, and would have been a blessing to Anne, if she but knew.

Hello, everyone!
I am getting used to my new Chromebook!
First impressions are very positive, but I still have quite a bit to learn.
And why they are made without a Caps Lock key is beyond me! But, I have resolved that!
I think we shall be firm friends soon.
They are very simple, (suits me!) very fast and so far I have not found anything that I would say is negative.
I agree with Doglet. Cheap and cheerful!

OK, so after reading what has been said so far about the Chromebook (or reading between the lines), I am not so sure it would suit me.

I use my PC regularly as a word processor; I either write or translate various things and need to create several folders etc. On the other hand I could not care two hoots about pictures, I prefer the printed version !!!!!

I do search the Web and buy on line, but the word processing part is of paramount importance, so is the possibility of printing, and I also need to use CD roms (although I think you can get a small 'gadget' type of item as an addition (you know what I mean don't you !)

With all this in view, am not so sure - what do you all make of it ?

Pigale, my instinct would be for you to steer clear of them, then.
No, I have no idea about CD roms. Or word processing etc. Sorry!
This machine suits me as my needs are very simple.
Best do your homework before buying.
But, I had a visit from a granddaughter the other day, and she brought her Mac Book to show me.
It is a lovely machine and very easy to operate, I found.
A Mac Book is an Apple computer.
It really impressed me, but they appear to be expensive, but possibly they can outlast ordinary computers.
What I would suggest, Pigale, is to start picking folk's brains. Read online reviews etc. Go into a computer shop and play about with them.
That is what I think.
You should see the ladies golf in Scotland today, Pigale.
All these ladies are dressed as if they are at the North Pole instead of on the Ayrshire coast!

Hi, Pigale!
I've just had a quick shifty back to see what has been said about the Chromebook (we've only just come in, been out since midday)
I'm not very computer-literate, so not a very good person to give you advice, altho on the other hand you sound to have a similar viewpoint to mine regarding modern gadgets! so maybe my opinion might help?
It does sound to me as though the chromebook might not be all that suitable for you? you might be better off sticking to your desk top (if that is what you are using at present?)
I certainly wouldn't be able to cope with it; I can just about manage my tablet. but for most things I prefer my desk top - I am reasonably proficient with that and I can also print things - I use the printer quite a lot.
I am not meaning to say that you find alternatives as difficult as I do(!) - I'm just going off what I think you've been inferring!

Is it that cold where up there Rusty ?

I think you are absolutely right - best grab a competent seller, tell him/her exactly my needs and take advice there, and elsewhere if I repeat the experience in different shops !

Out of interest though I will read up about Mac Book - just to satisfy my curiosity.

By the way, to answer your question yesterday, yes I do miss the Tour ! Got quite used to watching it in the afternoon.

Hello, Pigale.
No, it is not cold at all here, but the vast majority of these ladies play on the the US Tour where is is considerably warmer. There, it is short skirts and shorts they wear. There was one woman today who had a scarf thingy wrapped around her face to keep warm.
Yes, interrogate people, Pigale, you will do a lot worse than buy a Mac Book.
There is loads of info on the web.
Type in something like, "best laptops of 2015" and that should give you a start.
