I do not like to watch too much television at a time, as it tends to tire my eyes.
I am going to have a look on Amazon now for the book about "Bill".......
I shall report back if I find a good bargain!

I also like Fauvism.
I can spend hours in the National Gallery, just wandering around my favourite rooms......

Well, no snow! It seems to be concentrated to the Northern departments of High Normandy, North, Somme etc...

Elle, I do not follow you with Fauvism! I really do not like it!
My 'likes' start from 16th Century onwards, leading up to the
pre-Impressionism and Impressionist, and just some post Impressionists, but not many - Van Gogh being one of them.

I have never been to the Tate Gallery but did go to another Art
Gallery in London though I do not remember its name - It was not
modern art though.

Are you doing anything special today either of you? I, of course,
am not, apart from expecting a Super U delivery - the highlight
of my day so far! Isn't that interesting?

And still it rains here .....and it is also bitterly cold!
The warmest temperature we apparently can expect today is only 4C.
I went out for my walk with the dog as usual, though dressed in thick padded coat, beanie, scarf and gloves....and wellies.
Winter has arrived with a vengeance!
I looked for a book about "Bill the B......." last night.
The cheapest I could find was £17.36 on ebay.
That is much too expensive for me...I shall keep a lookout to see if a cheaper deal comes up.
Let me know if you find anything.
I have been doing chores this morning ..indoor ones!
I am now about to print out the crossword.....and maybe have a second mug of coffee....

Had anyone described Fauvism to me, before I ever went to an exhibition of such, I should have imagined that I would not like it.
But I found that I loved it!
Paintings by Andre Derain and Henri Matisse , the co-founders of Fauvism had me gazing enraptured!
Vlaminck is another artist who is renowned for his vividly painted landscapes.
And I have some wonderful art books!

That's expensive for a used book!
Is that from Australia?
Next year, in the Spring, there is a statue of Bill (and the men he saved) being erected in Murrumburrah, New South Wales, so just possibly there may another issue of the book, to coincide?
He is a legend in Oz but not so well known elsewhere.
Have another look on Amazon for "The Waler".
Bill is on the cover, so there may be a lot about him in the book?
Have you watched the documentary yet?
I have not looked at my puzzle yet.

When I was a teenager (many moons ago!), I used to spend most
of the money given me for birthdays, Christmas etc.... on second hand
art books bought from the famous bookstalls along the banks of
the River Seine. I have tons of them, and two are actually Numbered
Books - I got them for peanuts!

Did you know that the River Seine is known as "the only river in
the world that runs between two bookshelves"? The bookstalls
are permanently set up on either side of the river.

I have searched diligently for a "used" copy of "Bill the B", but can only find expensive new versions?

And as far as I can ascertain , "The Waler" ( by William McInnes ?) seems to be about the war horses in general, with a reference in the read-up to only one of the horses returning home.......which I presume to be "Sandy"?
I am looking for a (used) book specifically about "Bill".
No, I haven't watched the documentary yet.......maybe later in the day.
My crossword puzzle is nearly finished, but there are one or two hiccoughs!

I've only heard it used in Aberdeenshire.

I have now watched part of the documentary about the War horses....I saw Bill's brave rescue of the five soldiers.
An amazing act.
I saw Professor Roland Perry giving commentary in the film......yes, it is he who wrote the book that I found .
Jill Mather was there on screen, too...she has written a book entitled "Forgotten horses: The Australian Waler Horse", but again I cannot find one in "used" condition.
All are expensive, aren't they?
I shall hopefully finish watching the rest of the programme after dinner.
Now, the puzzle...... you are right......I cannot do 1down?

I am sorry I have been so long in replying, the afternoon kind of "ran away with" me!
Your bookshops sound wonderful!
And to be able to buy art books so cheaply must have been great.
I have spent quite a lot of money on my very small collection of art books.
I remember buying a volume on Kandinsky, at MOMA in New York, because the cost was only a fraction of what I would have had to pay here in London!
I carried it triumphantly all the way home!
