Hi Elle
It is mostly sugar and refined carbohydrates in our diet that cause tooth decay. I believe teeth have never rotted as fast as they do now in societies where sugar is eaten. before, people got damaged teeth from fighting or accidents which could not be treated but not from decay.
Otzi was found frozen on a mountain top near a border- I believe two countries claimed him but Italy won. Masses has been discovered by careful study.

Rusty, it was reported in English papers about the two people in the car, I think heads must roll. We have to hope the woman was not conscious at any stage during the three days.

NO!!!!!
It is the King of the Mountains for the entire race
From Day 1 to Day Paris.
The jerseys are for the best performances in each category over the entire race, Elle.
Just imagine the next stage is what is known as a mountain stage. Now the Tour allots points in a descending order for the first rider over the top down to say the twentieth rider. So you win the stage.
You are awarded 50 points and the polka dot jersey. But I come 2nd and am awarded 45 points.
The next day is another mountain top finish, but you have a bad day and can only come in 8th and get 10 points say? This 10 points is added to your previous days points giving you 60 points. That day I managed to win and get 50 points added to my previous points total of 45 points giving me 95 points.
Now, 95 points, Elle, is more than 60 points, so I become the new King of the Mountains and get the polka dot jersey. This continues for each day that mountain points are awarded. The jersey is awarded each day to the rider with the most accumulative points in that competition. Phew! OK?
I forget the exact glacier. I suspect on the Italian border with Switzerland.
Bodies are always emerging from glaciers. Usually climbers who fell into crevasses etc maybe 80 years ago and become snow and ice covered and form part of the glacier. But glaciers move downwards as they slowly melt and give up the bodies.
Otzi, if I remember (I am going to get a book on it) was around 35. They did an autopsy on him. His teeth were perfect, but they said he would have died from a heart attack in ten years time. His last meal was ibex and he had been murdered.
Are you sure you have never heard of Otzi?
When I get the book I will tell you all about him, Elle.
All quiet on the hawthorn front?

Sorry Rosalind, I did not see your post.
I am intrigued to learn more about Otzi.
There are one or two books about it.

Yes, it looks like a terrible human error by the police.
I hope she was not conscious, too.
And two wee kiddies orphaned.
Heartbreaking!

I knew of a dentist, many years ago, who had twins and made sure they ate no sugar at all. I expect they may have had some at parties but I think they took their own food. Fast forward to a gap year, which they started with perfect teeth.
The girl did VSO in Kenya, where the water supply was very irregular. She drank Coke for a year and even brushed her teeth with it, maybe not realising how much sugar it contains. The boy discovered Polos.
After the year both needed many fillings, including some root canals.
I suppose it may have been something other than sugar, though I don't think so. It has been called pure, white and deadly!

Doglet, I am pleased to say I would not give tuppence for Oscar Wilde's views on anything, least of all golf, and I am not so sure the quote was his.

The Open Golf Championship takes place this week a very short distance from my home, and many millions and me are looking forward to it.

Hi, Rosalind!
Yes, I'm sure you are right in what you say about teeth and use of sugar.
I hadn't thought of that aspect - I was just surprised that modern dentistry didn't play a bigger part in tooth preservation!

Good Morning, Rusty!
Not that it is a very good one - fell dreich here!
A somewhat 'poggy' walk this morning!
I hope it isn't like this up your way? especially for the last day of P in the Dark.
I hope the dispersal of the 'hordes' doesn't cause problems.
As Rosalind told you, the matter of the car incident has been in all the newspapers here - even in our local one! I think heads will - and certainly should! - roll over this!
Maybe the accident did add to the chaos in the Park- but I should think the unexplained (still?) death was a large part of that?
Thank you for clearing up the matter of the jerseys! That is how I initially understood it from your explanation........but somewhere along the line, another comment threw me and I became confused! All sorted now!
I do like to get things straight in my head... no point in half learning/ understanding something, now is there?!
I need to so some (much) neglected housework this morning, before we go over to Welling to attend to our daughter's cat.
I hope she is having better weather in Brittany than we are here!
Have you found a book on Otzi? I'm assuming you are looking on Amazon? how are your funds doing? Have you still got plenty left in the Amazon "kitty"?
