I have a problem with the DVLA.
They have my address wrong on my new log book for the Jazz.
I have corrected it and returned it but I think I may have signed in the wrong place, so I signed in two places!
It was not straightforward to my way of thinking!
I shall phone tomorrow and see what the craic is.
I think logs preceded calculators.
Probably not any good these days?
My research on LBJ is progressing slowly.
Apparently President Roosevelt had a high opinion of him and the work he did in Congress.
But I got diverted into reading up on Boney M.
They had many singers over the years, but only two were allowed in the recording studio, Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett.
Frank Farian did the male voice in the recordings but did not appear on stage because he was a "schlager" singer.
I have not found out what a schlager singer is yet, but I'll get there!
Is the cat any livelier?

I am running out of patience with EuroSport Player!
I have asked them if they are going to add the 'viewing time' that I am missing, on to the end of my contract with them.
Schlager is a German word...I think it means popular song?

Younger daughter has just texted...they are home again from their somewhat disastrous weekend.
They had booked a long weekend in a well-known holiday park on the Kent coast, thinking that the children would enjoy spending time on the beach.
I shall not mention it by name as what I am going to say is very detrimental, and it might be against Forum rules.
Apparently, the place was not very clean and there was a most unpleasant smell, leading the guests to think that there was a problem with the drains/ sewage.
My daughter took photos , filled in a Complaints form to apply for a refund, and they set off to find somewhere else to stay!
They moved up the coast and spent a couple of nights in Hythe - very pleasant and enjoyable.
A shame though that all was not plain sailing!
Thank you for asking about the cat...he has eaten a little more, and has not been sick today, but I think I shall take him along to the vets on Tuesday, to get checked out, when normal surgery resumes, and we can see our usual vet.

Have you heard of Benford's Law? Used log books illustrate it very well. It has been used to identify all sorts of fraudulent behaviour!

I think you are right about schlagers.
I found some examples of schlager songs that were popular in the UK.
"Blue Spanish Eyes", "Sailor", "Only the Lonely", "Please Release Me", and "Halfway to Paradise".
I am not at all sure why they are classified as schlager music, though.
Who decides?
The tennis is on EuroSport now, and all week.
I would imagine there will be many desperate to see the US Open.
EuroSport appear to have blundered badly!

"Only the Lonely" is Roy Orbison; "Please Release Me" is Jim Reeves or Engelbert Humperdinck; and I 'm not sure about "Halfway to Paradise ".......Billy Fury?
I didn't know these were Schlager music!
I don't think Hythe is famous for anything?
There was a report a while back about its being a "crap" town........the newspaper's definition......and choice of word....... not mine!
I think this stemmed from its being a quiet peaceful place though, rather than there being anything amiss.
It has a pebble beach....I prefer sandy ones!

If you type "Sailor" song, into Google, it tells that Petula Clark sang "Sailor", an English language translation of a German schlager song!
I only had a quick glance!

The link I gave made it sound much more complicated than it is. Benford noticed that early pages of logarithm tables were always dirtier than later ones as they had been used more. He looked at lots and lots of data sets and discovered that more numbers start with 1 than 2, more with 2 than with 3, and so on. Hence if data is published with a suspiciously high percentage starting with 8s or 9s, it may well be fraudulent.

My interpretation of the schlager songs is, they were older middle of the roadie type songs?
