Take 2 (as they say in Hollywood!)
"A", and a word for your "rear" beginning with "p" (9) and Head of I(nspectorate).

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, thank you, I see how "functionalist" is arrived at, now!
Although I would never have managed it on my own!
Now...for 7d......I have it!
"A posteriori"!
Yes, I rather like that....I find 7d a more satisfying clue than was 11a?
We shall not speak of EuroSport Player!
To think of all the tennis I am missing!
I emailed them again but have had no response.
When I try to log in, I am asked for money!
I do not think I shall renew my subscription come December.
I have just been chatting on the phone to my daughter.
She is going to contact Environmental Health about the state of the Holiday Park, which I can probably say is in Camber Sands (providing I do not actually name the establishment )
From the sound of it, the Holiday Park should be shut down!
Apparently, there are hundreds of bad reviews on its website.

Hello, Elle,
I thought "functionalist" was a fine clue.
And yes, you will manage on your own.
Doing cryptics are never ending absorption of little bits and pieces of info etc that will help you in the future battles with the setters.
Look upon it as a challenge, and no more defeatist talk!
So was "a posteriori" a good clue, what ever it meant!
Heather is behind in the first set.
This Europlayer is proving to be a bit of a dead loss!
I have heard of Camber Sands!
A pity is has deteriorated so much.
Hope your daughter gets a refund.

Hi, Rusty!
Who is Heather playing?
Is she in with a chance?
I am furious to be missing it all!
Maybe you can send me hourly bulletins?!
I think Camber Sands itself is still a very nice place, Rusty........I have never been there, but various folk have told me of the lovely sandy beaches there.
It was just the Holiday Park accommodation booked that was so poor........the photos my daughter took showed it to be appalling.
The chalet allotted to them hadn't even been cleaned......there was mould on the walls and rubbish left on the floor.
And I've already told you about the dreadful smell around the place!
I think she will get a refund...there are too many complainants sending in adverse reports for this to be ignored.

Hello, Elle,
Lot of unforced errors from Heather.
She is playing Alize Cornet of France.
She lost first set 4-6, and is 2-4 down on the second.
Was it at Camber Sands that a lot of Allied soldiers were killed during the war?
In a rehearsal for D-Day, I think.
I am probably wrong but the name is familiar.
The holiday camp sounds a right dump.

Hello, Elle,
No, it was Slapton Sands in Devon, that the soldiers were killed.
I was wrong...again!

4-4 in second set.

Hi, Rusty!
Slapton Sands is where the villagers were forced to move out of their homes, leaving the place available to the American soldiers who were to take part in the D-day invasion.
The plan was to have a dummy run, wasn't it?
A "rehearsal"?
But all went wrong when German E-boats happened on the scene.....
I wonder what put that in your mind?
Thanks for the update on the tennis!
I am sorry Heather lost...I like Heather ...she has such a happy smile!
I don't know Alize Cornet?
But well done, Kyle Edmunds !
Whom did he beat?
Grrrh! Eurosport Player has a lot to answer for!

Hello, Elle!
I knew it was somewhere with"Sands" in the name and you said Camber Sands.
But I was not sure of it.
So, I looked on YouTube.
There is an excellent documentary there all about what happened at Slapton Sands.
There is a plaque in the soldiers (over 600 of them) memory in Arlington Cemetery.
The French girl was a good bit better than Heather.
I did not watch Edmunds in his game.
Just caught the end of it.
Still no pictures from Europlayer?
