Weird co-incidence, elle - I finished reading "Crowdie and cream" last night!

It was interesting to me as I've stayed on Harris (gorgeous place!), but I don't think I'd give it a general recommendation.

Good morning, Elle!
Dullish in my neck of the woods!
There is a place called Dull near Aberfeldy, actually.
Not sure, but something at the back of my mind tells me it is twinned with a place called Boring!
I do not think Crowdie is renowned for anything.
The tale is about life on Harris years ago.
The book has sold well for lots of years.
It is my kind of book.
Life away from towns and cities.
Not unlike Miss Peckwitt's tales.
Not sure if a TV programme was made of the book?
The one I have is a trilogy. C and C is first part.
Keep me going for ages!
I watched young Miss Muir's run.
I am slightly puzzled as to why she ran in a race that was way below her optimum distance?
She was last for most of the race and a surge of power (impressive!) took her through the field.
Think she was a close up fifth.
If you visit YouTube you can see her race.
Type "Lausanne 800 metres" and that's where I found her.
Going to put the golf on now and see how things are in Norn Iron!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I have just watched Laura's race on Youtube.
She did well to break her own PB for that distance.
800m is not a new distance though, for Laura to race.
She has always specialised in the 800, 1500 , 3000 and 5000 metres races.
She represented Great Britain in the 800m in the 2013 World Championships with a time of 2: 00.83.
She will be well pleased to have now run the fastest ever time of her life in the 800m - finishing fifth with a time of 1:58.69!
It may be that she see this distance as yet another challenge?
Having broken records in the longer distances?
Or maybe she just wanted a shorter "run-in" - after recovering from her broken toe injury - before Sunday's race?
I hope the Norn Iron golf is going well?
I am way too hot!!!!!
This weather is definitely not for me!
I shall have to brave it though, to go and feed my friend's fish......

Yes, Chris.....a strange coincidence, your reading the very book we were discussing!

Possibly rusty had mentioned it some time ago?

Good afternoon, Elle!
How can you specialise in events at four different distances?
That can not be what you mean, surely?
Anyway, I have an entry in my diary for this Sunday.
"Laura to attempt to break Zola Budd's record"
I put this in some time ago, but have no idea what record, or where it is being attempted?
You are getting good at this YouTube!
Golf is fine at Portstewart.
Now, what think you of this?
Next Wednesday evening Crowdie and Cream is being shown on BBC Alba. Episode 2 of 3.
That's another coincidence!

Yes, Chris, I bought C and C a wee while ago and probably mentioned it then.

Good afternoon, Rusty!
Whew!
It is unbearable outside! I am glad to be back indoors, where at least there is a vestige of air being batted around by the fan!
And all I have done is toddle up the street to see to the fish!
Yes, I did mean that Laura competes at all these different "middle distances" .....hasn't she always done this?
Kelly Holmes - another middle distance runner - used to compete in more than one...usually the 800m and the 1500m , I think
Yes, you are quite right in saying that Laura plans to break Zola Budd's record on Sunday at the London Anniversary Games ( the 9th DL) at the Olympic Stadium.
Laura is planning to take on Zola's 1985 British Mile record!
I suspect she will eventually want to beat all records at all middle -distances?
Well, she is well on the way to doing so!
What an incredible coincidence that the story of your book, "Crowdie and Cream," is also being shown on TV!
You were obviously remembering correctly when you thought it was a TV series!
Rafa is on court at the moment.......

Hello, Elle!
I mean you can only specialise in one event, not four, but I get your meaning.
800 metres is for sharpening up her speed I think.
Do you know what time her race is?
Or, what distance is it?.
Be good to watch, I think.
She may be on bonus money from Nike for each record she breaks?
Bubka had a deal like that in the pole vault.
I suspect Crowdie and Cream has been on TV before.
This showing on BBC Alba will have sub-titles in Gaelic I imagine.
It is normally the other way round on Alba.
The Gaelic programmes have English sub-titles!

Hi, Rusty!
I don't think you 've read what I told you properly!!
If Laura intends to beat Zola's 1 mile record........then surely the race distance must be a mile?
One of us is having a senior moment here?
There is a time and race schedule for Sunday's Games here in the Evening Standard.......
http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/other-sports/london-anniversary-games-2017-schedule-athletes-tv-and-tickets-a3582071.html
There is a one mile women's race listed for 15.38 - presumably this must be it?
Now ..."Crowdie and Cream"..........it was first shown on BBC4 on the 29th November 2008!
But it seems to be showing at present on BBC iplayer!

The writer, Finlay MacDonald, spoke no English at all when he first went to school.
