Les Grottes de Lascaux, in Dordogne (South West) were
discovered in 1940.
If you google 'grottes de Lascaux, you will find a site and you
can even click on 'translate this page'.

You may have heard about it on one of the TDF, some years ago?

PS - In fact, I am sure I remember telling you that I was lucky to have
seen the original grotte when a child on a driving holiday with my
parents. The real grotte has now been closed so that the
paintings might not get more damaged by air.
I believe a replica has been created for people to visit - but don't
quote me !

In my innocence, I would expect them to be called "cave paintings" rather than "caveman paintings", though?
It would be interesting if Anne B could tell us the connection between "caveman" and "print/er".
And i am not sure which country the Neandertal museum place was?
Could have been Germany or Luxemburg.

I certainly remember the name Lascaux, from you or le Tour.
The Tour is quite educational, I find.
The commentators usually tell about the places along the route.
I spotted a herd of cows today who decided to gallop alongside the fence in their field to keep up with the riders.
You wonder what is going through their heads?

I have been exploring!
I went on YouTube and discovered that the Neandertal Museum is just outside Dusseldorf, Germany, (where Le Tour started this year)
There are good videos to learn all about the Neandertal folk.
Then I went to Pigale's caves at Lascaux.
The videos were excellent.
I also came across less well known cave paintings at a place called Chauvet, in the Ardeche region.
They are fairly recently discovered and were immediately closed to the public to preserve them.
There are good videos of them however.
Was a most enjoyable time exploring!

"In addition to the paintings and other human evidence, they also discovered fossilized remains, PRINTS, and markings from a variety of animals, some of which are now extinct."
So, prints can be found in caves! The link!

The paintings are around 30,000 years old.

My goodness, you have been very thorough in your research!
And it is good to know that I was on the right lines with my suggestion of "cavemen" and prehistoric "paintings", even if I could not directly tie it up with "prints", as you have managed to do so successfully, with the quote regarding the Chauvet Cave.

It has been a very oppressive night here....I have been up since 5.30...
It feels fresher downstairs with a through current of air and two fans!
We are told there will be thunderstorms later...but hopefully my dog will get her walk in with my friend before this happens.
She (the dog, not my friend) is terrified of thunder.
I wonder if Wimbledon will also get the thunderstorms........
As far as I can make out, the Diamond League at Lausanne is showing live on EuroSport Player at 7pm this evening?
If I do not watch this then, there are Highlights at the w/e on BBC.
It all depends on the tennis situation.......

The search for "prints" and "cavemen" was quite enjoyable.
I have enormous gaps in my knowledge on many things, and it was nice to fill in a little gap or two!
I think YouTube is a great tool for finding out about stuff!
Off for my paper now, then I'll see how the Irish Open is doing!

I cannot believe that you have drizzle - it is so glorious here!
No sign as yet of any thunderstorm, and indeed, so far it feels a tad fresher than yesterday.
But of course that may not last......
The dog has arrived home and has just eaten... she seems to have enjoyed her outing, but always greets me as though we have been parted for an age !
The tennis programme is a good one - predicted weather permitting - but I think I shall limit myself to Roger and Novak's respective matches on Centre Court, later this afternoon........
I watched too much TV yesterday!

The Open is on now.
Just watched Ian Poulter being interviewed.
He is not everyone's cup of tea but I like him.
Lot of well known faces there.
James Nesbitt, JP McManus, Pep Guardiola, Dermot Desmond, Sir AP McCoy, etc.
Looks a bit dull there but no umbrollys up!
