Hey, Rusty!
Sorry....Yes, I 'm here now...... I've been very busy playing tennis!
Hasn't it been a good day for British players? How nice to see Heather Watson win her match- and she seems to have so much more confidence now, doesn't she?
And James Ward, what a good match that was! Did you manage to see any of it?
I didn't expect Laura Robson to win, that would have been too much to hope for under the circumstances, but good to see her back on court today.

Hudl? What is this? No I haven't noticed its doing anything?
I've just had a quick glance after reading your message, but nothing new seems to be in evidence?
Would I know retrospectively if it had done all those things you say?

Did you know that ( just like a " 'leap' year ") tonight we will have a " 'leap' second"?
Immediately before midnight dials will read 11:59:60, as clocks hold their breath for a second to
allow the Earth’s rotation to catch up with atomic time.

There..........a useful nugget of information! (which you probably knew anyway!)

Hello, Elle.
You have nothing to say sorry for!
I saw a bit of Heather's game and a bit of Laura's game and a lot if folk sweating! Did not see Murray.
Yes, it is enjoyable.
I received a message in my notations saying there was an update. I pressed "go" or something and off it went.
Give me minute and I shall endeavour to explain to you how to find out if you have one. To be honest, I don't notice the slightest difference.
I think it said it is to patch bugs. Mentioned the click, and mine went slow on me last week.
Uno momento!

Right, Elle!
Go to "settings". That is the wee cog wheel thingy.
Scroll right down to the bottom to "about tablet".
Go you in there.
Look for "updates".
Go in there.
Press "check for updates"
And take it from there.
All you would have to do, Elle, is press "start" or something and it does it all itself.
Does this leap second mean I get a long lie in the morning?

Ok, Rusty!
Yes, it tells me in there that I have an update available! No indication otherwise tho'? How did you know about yours?
it says that it contains "lots of little improvements to keep your Hudl running smooth and secure..." plus the fact that they "have added some new entertainment apps" blah, blah...
Do I really need/ want to click on this? is it something I 'should' do?
I doubt you'll get more than the extra second to sleep in?!
But apparently , this second business might cause computer problems - or so it said when I googled it?

Elle, you can probably just leave it.
I updated and do not see any difference.
And you certainly do not want entertainment apps.
I got rid of all mine when I changed launchers.
If your Hudl was playing up it would be an idea to update, but as your daughter said, best to leave well alone. "Do no harm"

Elle, do not worry about this second!
The computers will be grand.
We heard all this hoo-ha at the Millenium and nothing happened.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, that's very true! I remember all the threats about potential viruses at the dawning of the Millenium - and , as you say, nothing happened!
I shall leave my Hudl be for now...no message about an update had appeared on my screen - I wouldn't have known without going into 'Settings'.
I certainly don't want any more entertainment apps!
And all seems to be working nicely at the moment - so I'll leave well alone, I think?
I have just finished "1914: The Days of Hope".
How sad that it says at the end that Debrett's Peerage did not appear as it usually did in early Spring, as it took many months to revise the entries of so many blue-blooded families in the UK.
Whereas the common or garden Smiths, Jones , Atkins etc were merely listed as so many statistics!

Elle, it is strange how I got a message and you didn't?
I shall theorise shortly, but first.
I said the update had made no difference, but for some time I have had two apps on Hudl which had become a bit of a pest to get going properly.
These were BT and Paddy Power.
Just tried them there and they are working perfectly.
Could it be that Hudl could detect that they were not right? And send me an update.
While yours needed less urgent attention, and it just went to settings without alerting you?
I know little about technology but after discovering the Cloud etc I would not be surprised at what these gadgets get up to!

Elle, that is midnight and that leap second past, and I have had a look out the window and the world is still there! These experts must think the rest of us are mad!
Yes, I remember about Debrett's.
Is that still published?
I would be with the ordinary oiks who were discounted!
Well, now that the world is still whirling around, I think I will celebrate our Great Escape by having a boiled egg then off to bed, before the experts get any more fascinating notions!
