Hey, Rusty!
I rather think the word might be 'dubbing'? but I thought you'd given up on leather walking boots and use trail boots these days?
I've just bought a spray to treat my Nubucks.
Speaking of ....... did you ever waterproof your jacket with the Fabsil spray? Does a great job!
A NEW car! wow! I'm sure the b**** r*** will taste even better after a spin out in Miss WT's car!
Now the tennis..... Djokocvoic's playing but you don't like him......against Nieminem - should be a good match?
Another good match should be Tommy Haas v Milo Raomin
But you WILL like the Heather Watson v Daniela Hantuchova match.
And one of your favourites is also playing - Maria Sharapova but I forget her opponent?
Oh and if you want to support a Brit, Liam Broady v Goffin should also be a good match.
No, I didn't know that it was the 99th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme! thank you for telling me.

I didn't know about that anniversary either - next year will probably see some official commemorative ceremonies, but unfortunately I think all the surviving soldiers have died now.

Elle, is dubbing not what Her Majesty does with a wee sword to elevate deserving folk to Knight and Damehoods?
You may be quite correct of course.
I shall investigate later!!!!
I much prefer synthetic approach shoes, but the old leather boots often play a part when the snow falls.
So, I keep them in good nick.
I got a new Sprayway jacket, and also a very lightweight golf jacket.
That's fine, I shall cheer Nieminem, so.
I like Heather and also Miss Hantuchova.
And Maria.
I am off to ASDA now. The girls have been telling me that ASDA are very good to the expectant mothers among the staff. Good to hear!
Just a query.
World of Books have taken to sending me a voucher for 10% of my next order. You?
I dont think that would include p&p.
So it looks like 10% off a penny.
That is about as useful as the leap second!

Hello, Pigale!
I have not heard anything about ceremonies this year.
In GB there is some sort of balloting taking place to possibly get an invitation to ceremonies next year.
I think, at Thiepval.
People are saying what a wonderfully warm Summer's day today is.
That is exactly the weather the troops had as they left the trenches, 99 years ago.
Poignant.

Hi, Rusty!
I'm multi-tasking here.........watching Broady losing to Goffin ( a very experienced and talented opponent)......and reading a new book.
I've got the fan on as it's so unbearably hot! My husband - quite oblivious to the heat - is out gardening all alone! even the dog has deserted him and come inside where it's cooler.
Normally, I would be assisting willingly, but not today at this temperature !
Some one on the radio has just advised a curfew between 11am and 3pm when all should stay indoors out of the intense heat!
World of Books haven't sent ME a voucher? that smacks of favouritism! or maybe I just haven't bought enough books yet? or did you fill out a survey? ( I've tended so far to ignore all surveys sent as time-wasters!)
I've switched channels as the Djokovic v Nieninem has just started......
Are you watching.............?

Hi Rusty,

Why should there be any doubt as to whether or not GB will get an invitation next year ? I should have thought that all countries involved in WW1 will be represented - and in saying this I include Germany, they suffered great losses too.

Must have been dreadful fighting in such Summer like conditions, when Nature looks at its best.

I know many of the men were thinking about the harvest starting in their farms - there are some very interesting books that ally history of agriculture, country folks way of life and the effect of the war, the whole through following several generations of a family- semi documention fiction, and I learnt a lot regarding the 'modern' techniques the POW had seen in Germany, and the job they had in convincing the older generation back home.

Ah, Pigale, no!
I have not explained properly! Sorry!
There are so many wishing to go from GB to Thiepval that they are organising a ballot to see who shall get tickets. They cannot all go.
Yes, I agree about Germany.
They had enormous losses and should be there, too, in my humble opinion.
Russia had huge losses, too, but on the Eastern front.
France and GB, too.
Too many losses from too many countries!
I did not know of a link between agriculture and the war, except for the horses.
How is your weather today?
We have a lovely breeze coming in from the sea to cool us down!

Miss Sharapova is playing now.
It is fine here for weather.
Great breeze coming off the North Sea to cool us down!

Bonjour
If you apply dubbin wax to boots, this is known as dubbining.

Rusty, my weather is not to my liking today, nor has it been for a few days but today is the worse so far !

I sure wish you could send some of your breeze this way - I just live too far from the sea ! Haven't put my nose out since 10.30am, when I closed all shutters.

~The link between war and agriculture is because while prisoners in Germany, young farmers saw the material used in that countrty - German technology was ahead of us and the farmers started using locomobile threshing machines and later harvesters , tractors etc long before us.

So that when the young men returned home to France, they endeavoured to convince their elders, sometimes with difficulty - there is nothing more stubborn than a French peasant ! But they are lovely !
