Hello, Elle!
The umpire was doing that at Stuttgart last week, too.
I see the French folk have banned Nastase from Roland Garros!
He just does not "get" it!
The race starts around 11.34 this evening (after the crowd sing "My Old Kentucky Home")
The race is wide open (we even have a one-eyed horse), the going may well be "slop", so no bet for me.
Just watching for enjoyment.
One of the great sporting experiences!

Hi, Rusty!
So far, Muller has taken the first set and is well on the way to taking the second after an early break of serve - and thus winning the match.
Mind you, "it ain't over till the fat lady sings".......
I had heard that Nastase was not going to be invited to the Royal Box at Wimbledon this year because of his (recent) atrocious behaviour.
It is good to see the French officials following suit, regarding the French Open.
Where is the Kentucky Derby being shown?
I couldn't find it on EP?
Good luck to the one-eyed horse!

Hello, Elle!
The one-eyed horse is called Patch.
The race is on the At The Races channel, or Racing UK channel, I have forgotten which!
There are very many sports channels and I only get some of them!
It may even be on YouTube.
I think Nastase is an ignorant piece of whatever John McEnroe would say!
Sport is better without clots like him.
I see the Diamond League is at Shanghai next week.
Hope it is good!

Hello, Elle,
If you would like to see Patch, there is a little piece about him on YouTube (where else!)
Type "Kentucky Derby Preview. A one eyed long shot" into YouTube searchbox. It was filmed this morning.
Just lasts a couple of minutes.
Think everybody is rooting for Patch!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes......thank you, I have found it..... I have just watched a mini video about Patch, with his trainer, Todd Pletcher.
Good for Patch!
I am sorry that I shall not be able to watch the actual race later, but I shall be rooting for him.
Fingers crossed he does well!
I am giving up on my last parsing......it is 19 across:
Misprint in volume of Alcott heading a line (7)
I have "literal" = misprint (definition ); but that is as far as I can go?
Your mentioning John McEnroe has reminded me that I wanted to look up his autobiography......I believe it is entitled "Serious"!
("You cannot be serious!")
I think I may buy it?

Alcott was American, so would have spelled "litre" (a volume) as "liter"; then A L(ine)

Hello, Elle!
I knew you would take to Patch!
There has been a flood of money on him.
A lot of sentiment about!
He is drawn on the outside, so he won't see the rest of the horses to begin with, anyway.
"Come on, Patch!"
The race will be on YouTube soon after it has ran.
19A. That one made me think, Elle.
The only Alcott that I had heard of was an American writer.
I forget what she wrote but her nationality is the key here.
The setter is looking for an "American" volume.
That would be "liter" as opposed to our "litre".
With "a l(ine) for literal.
I think "Serious" would be a good buy.
I always like John.
It is still quite warm up here.

Hello, Elle,
Just had Amy Alcott come into my head.
She was the first to take a leap into Poppie's Pond when she won the Dinah Shore tournament.
And she is American!

Hey, Rusty!
I shall look for Patch on YouTube!
I have my fingers metaphorically crossed for him!
I entirely missed the point of 19a!
I assumed "Alcott" was "Louisa May", so I took "volume" as being a book, not a quantity of fluid!
So all the titles of her "Little Women" books have been going through my head!
I was completely stumped!
The possible significance of "Alcott" being an American name went right over my head!
Yes, I shall buy "Serious".
I really like Mac - I think he has a great personality!
I am going on to Amazon shortly to see what I can discover.
Well.......I have been watching BGT!
It has just finished....
I will not say too much until you have watched it....... but there were two acts that I thought were excellent, and one that I thought was very moving and emotional.
And several "rubbish" ones !!
I shall say no more for now!
It will be interesting to hear what you think..........

Hello, Chris!
Thanks for that!
I was on the wrong lines altogether - looking for books not capacities!
How was your holiday in Koln?
When did you get back?

Hello, Elle,
That sort of clue turns up from time to time.
Another one could be something like. Nice policeman.
Answer could maybe be "gendarme", rather than a nice cop.
The setter did a good job on you!
That is it. Louisa May, I remember now.
I will watch BGT in the morning.
I like the rubbish acts, too!
I like a laugh!
I think all of the USA are supporting Patch!
Be nice if he managed it!
