Good morning, Elle!
Update!
Kipchoge just missed the sub 2 hour target in the marathon.
He ran 2.00.23.
I did not see any of it, though.

Good morning, Rusty!
I am just back from my walk - a dull day as yet.......and a bit chilly.
How is it with you?
What a shame that Kipchoge didn't break the marathon record and run under the two hours!
He was so close, wasn't he?
Although the article I was reading beforehand said that the aim was to shave two minutes off the two -hour time?
But I don't know how much credence I can attach to that?
The Doha Athletics are on showing again on EP now!
And there is tennis all this afternoon - repeated Quarter- finals and live Semis.
I shall hope to watch some of it at least.......
What are you planning for today?

Hello, Elle!
The Nike target was 1.59.59.
Yes, Kipchoge ran a great time.
I shudder to think what all this cost Nike?
They paid Kipchoge and the others not to run London or Berlin marathons, to be right for this.
I did not see the run because it was kept secret.
No spectators.
More like an experiment than a race.
I am home for the day.
I've the 2000 Guineas to watch and in the evening the Kentucky Derby (the Run for the Roses!)
And the Tour of Italy.
And I shall attempt the puzzle later.
Plenty to be going on with!

Hi, Rusty!
Oh, I didn't know that it wasn't a "spectator" race?
How odd?
The principle though sounds rather like some of Laura Muir's recent races just for record breaking?
You seem to have a busy day ahead of you!
First, the racing at Newmarket.......and then the Kentucky Derby.
What is "the Run for the Roses" ?
Ought I to know?
And cycling to view, too!
( Ah well, I can compete with that...... I have the ATP tennis to watch!)
Not to forget BGT!
I have completed the Times 15 x15...I thought it was quite straightforward today......just two still to parse....
I shall now take a look at the Jumbo GK.....

Hello, Elle!
No, there were no spectators allowed.
Very strange event!
I am slightly puzzled as to how Laura Muir manages to fit training blocks around the world with her vet course.
Obviously Nike will be throwing money at her, but I hope she keeps her eye on her course.
Yes the puzzle was not too bad today.
I enjoyed it.
The "Run for the Roses" is the unofficial name for the Kentucky Derby.
The winning horse is garlanded with roses, hence the "Run for the Roses".
So, it is likely you have never came across it before?

Hi, Rusty!
No, I have definitely never heard of that term before.
My mind was geared towards the Red Rose of Lancaster and the White Rose of York!
The "War of the Roses"!
I couldn't ally this with Louisville, Kentucky!
It sounds a nice idea to hang a rose garland around the neck of the winning horse!
Provided of course that the horse has no objection to this adornment!
Re the 15 x 15, I have to say that I hadn't heard of 1down .
I got it from the anagram and the crossers.
I had to google the result.
Right...a coffee, I think!

Hello, Elle!
I had heard of 1d!
Was not sure what it was, but we have crossed paths before, probably in a crossword!
//I couldn't "ally" this with Louisville, Kentucky,//
Louisville was the home town of Muhammad "Ali"!
So, very good! Is that a pun, or something?
I hear the roses have arrived at the racecourse to a great reception.
Maybe this tradition has it's origin in history somewhere?
Most folk will not know what the "Run for the Roses" is.
I bet Daphne Fowler and co would though!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist it!
Probably not a very good play on words ..........but I am quite proud of it!
(and before the coffee stimulation, too)
I have been sitting out in the garden - it is not really all that warm, but okay for short periods.
I have prescription sunglasses for reading, so took my book out with me.
The dog was talking through the fence with next door's fox.
There is a family of foxes live there... they are quite friendly.
I am also watching the Estoril tennis ....
Excellent picture on the EuroSport Player.
David Ferrer playing Pablo Carrero Busta.
Carrrero Busta has just taken the first set.
What are you up to?

Hello, Elle!
I did not think you would have made the connection with the "Louisville Lip!"
Well done!
The Run for the Roses tradition started in 1896 and there are more than 400 roses in the garland.
It is a very warm day here.
I did think of going for a picnic.
I am listening to the wireless just now.

Hi, Rusty!
Well, the first Semi -Final is over with....
I hadn't realised that they only played three sets.
Carreno Busta won....6/3 ; 6/3.
It is hilarious watching the umpire stroll over all importantly to point out where the ball landed!
The next Semi follows shortly.
Gilles Muller to play Kevin Anderson.
Anderson is 6 ft 8 ins tall!
He took out Richard Gasquet to get here.
Apparently, the match starts in three minutes!
What time is your horse race?
Have you placed a bet?
