Good morning, Elle.
A fine blustery day here.
No, Laddie and Lassie do not Winter together.
They went separately to Africa.
Remember too, that last year was Lassie's first year at the site.
She took over the nest when Lady, the previous female, did not return from Africa.
Lady was the incumbent female for quite a few years.
We do not know what happened to her but she was an old bird.
I think she raised over fifty chicks.
There is plenty of time for Lassie or another female to turn up.
I will go past the horse later.

Hi, Rusty!
Ah........
Now there are several things there that I did not know!
I knew that Lassie and Laddie had flown separately to Africa.
But - in my innocence and haze of (avian) romantic bliss - I thought that they were going to the same place and would meet up when they got there!
(Now, don't laugh at me!)
And I also did not know that last year was Lassie's first visit to the nest- I had thought that L and L were "an old established pair"!
I am sadly disillusioned all around!
Now....I have just been talking to my Scottish cousin from Kirkintilloch!
It was a lovely surprise as I was not expecting her to phone today.
She tells me - amongst many other things! - that it is cold and wet in East Dunbartonshire - and they are expecting the rain to turn to snow over the Argyll and Ayrshire hills.
You are, what , 75 miles away from Kirkintilloch?
Are you likely to get any threatened snow?
(And we thought Summer was on its way)

Yes, found it, Pigale!
One owl completely immobile and the other rocking itself slightly!
Both look very peaceful.
Thank you!

Hello, Elle!
Two years ago, Laddie was Lady's mate.
Lady was a very old bird and did not return from Africa.
Laddie then paired with Lassie.
No romance involved, just to breed.
Laddie will breed with another female, if Lassie does not come back.
Or if there is a suitable female before Lassie arrives.
He is not committed to her.
This is Nature, Elle!
It is a lovely blustery Spring day here, but the temperature is set to drop.
So, we may get snow.

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, another fact of which I was unaware....I did not know of Laddie's and Lady's previous liaison!
What a fickle world in which we live!
No, but seriously......
Swans mate for life. don't they?
And eagles and geese........
So how was I to know that ospreys didn't?!
Leave me to my pitiful illusions..........
Right, I am away out with the dog...it is getting increasingly windy...and very black... I fear we may have heavy rain, so I going now before the worst comes!

Hello, Elle,
If you want to know the scandal in the osprey world, I'm your man!
I think you are right about swans.
I do not know about geese, except the old gander was weeping, because his wife was dead.
Do you have a picture from the loch yet?
I passed the horse today and said "hello".
He looked across, but that was all.
It is a lovely day here.
Hope they keep the rain in Kirkintilloch!

Hi, Rusty!
Fell dreich here.
Kirkintilloch didn't keep its rain to itself!
We got somewhat damp on our perambulation!
Yes, I have a good picture of the nest now.
It is blowing in the wind...... which is howling.
Plenty of moss....no Laddie....nor yet Lassie.
Are we talking "Old Grey Goose" and Aunt Rhody?
I think the old gander refused to eat?
I see that Theresa May is to trigger Article 50 on Wednesday, May 29th.
The Scottish relatives are stressed.......I am unsure how they hope to reconcile remaining in the UK (remember they live in East Dunbartonshire) with staying in the EU.......?

Hello, Elle!
Kirkintilloch and its rain are just nuisances!
We have had some too.
"the old gander's weeping,
the old gander's weeping,
the old gander's weeping,
because his wife is dead".
Laddie was there a few minutes ago, moving sticks about.
Why are your Scots relatives stressed?
I do not follow that.
They won't be in the EU, but it will take some time before that happens.
Are you sure it is May 29th?
I thought it was sooner than that.
My son tells me we have snow coming!
