PS - just googled and Charles Aznavour was born 1924 - started his most recent tour in 2014; he is now 91 and still going!

I inherited my love of Stephane Grapelli from my father who was a big admirer of his. I still have the well-worn records of Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club. I thought Charles Aznavour had died, but pleased that you have found him still alive !
A cousin of mine was the drummer on an album "for Django" (1964) .

Were I to be marooned on a desert island - highly unlikely, as I only occasionally leave the house,- high on the list of my top ten request records would be Grapelli/Shearing's 'After you've gone'. A masterpiece!

oh well, he is a baby indeed ! But what a wonderful welsh voice.

Grapelli and Django were unforgettable - I have an old cassette made from even older records.
I was lucky enough to watch Stephane Grapelli live in Guernsey, where he gave a concert (in a 'Jazzy' pub) a few months before his Royal Albert Hall performance for his 80th birthday, When I saw him, he introduced a youngster who was already very good and who is now quite famous in that style of music - so famous that I don't remember his name, but that's typical of me!

pigale; how lucky you were to have seen Stephane in a live performance. I only ever saw him on the television.
I am off to bed now. I wish you and everyone a good night. Sleep well

Chiff, we might be on the same wave length :):) indeed, but on a desert island I am afraid I would also have to take Edith Piaf ! Her voice still does and always will send makes me shiver with emotion. I saw her live at the Olympia (Paris) in 1956/57, and I have never seen an audience so captivated - it impressed me the more because I was very much a youngster, but I can still see her, tiny woman in the middle of a big stage, and no noise at all apart from her extraordinary voice - I will never forget it.

Yves Montand. Brings back a few memories. Born in 1921, his birth preceded mine by 1 month. I remember being so surprised on my day of birth that I couldn't speak for almost 12 months.
