We have quite a few heath fires here sadly usually set deliberately.I heard some swifts the other day very early for them but there is plenty of food for them.We are supposed to get up to 29 on Wednesday so we will have to find an air conditioned restaurant for our weekly lunch We are still plagued by ticks even though I have used repellent on the dogs ,cats and our hedgehog

I've always been very fortunate, Doglet, in that I haven't encountered any ticks on any of my animals - although of course with our present situation, only the dog goes outside .
I didn't know you could use repellent on the pets - what form does it take ?

The cats haven't ever tried to eat them, elle - I don't think it would be a problem, anyway.

Elle, it 'owrked' OK, and it even 'worked' well indeed!

I'm not convinced we are talking about same thing though -
'mines' are certainly no longer than 1mm, if that, and are black; I don't think they damage plants, but who knows!

As for ticks, as Doglet said, you can protect your pets (cats and dogs) by getting an anti-tick/flee collar, or by injecting yourself, usually on top of neck, a special product sold in vets, or here at least, also in pharmacist, in the animal care department. Ticks are extremely dangerous to animals (and human beings as well).

Re fires - a lot of picknickers are responsible for fires in the South of France in particular, and even sometime even set on purposely - which is really criminal.

Here, it is simply due to heat.

Yes, my animals have that special flea/ tick preparation, or similar, applied at regular intervals .
I was at cross purposes as I thought that Doglet meant a topical temporary spray or some such, like we would use on ourselves just before we went out.
Ignore me ......!

Elle, please do not 'inject yourself' with anything!

I meant to say that you can perform the injection yourself - in fact IT IS NOT an injection, but rather a little tube of product which you squeeze onto the skin (between hair) on the neck.

Must be yesterday's heat that has damage my mind!

Don't worry, Pigale - I use the product regularly on my pets - we were at cross purposes earlier , see my last post.
Now off to organise dinner......

Hey, Rusty!
It's all right, you are preaching to the converted, so to speak!
I would never seriously consider betting on anything!
The only time I've ever placed a bet was when we were invited to a friend's box at Ascot (surely I must have told you this?) We were very well disciplined - put just ten pounds aside for the entire day's wagers! And if we won something we put that to one side!
It was fun though! (especially as dinner in the box was thrown in!)
Yes, I'm greatly enjoying reading "1914: The Days of Hope". As I did "The Roses of No Man's Land" before that.
And I'm now awaiting delivery of three more of her books!
I already have five other books lined up to read though (fiction;I know you don't like that!) so will probably intersperse Lyn's books with those.
What I especially like about her writing is the way she includes extracts from diaries and letters written by the book's participants.
I think it helps emphasise her points and adds to the human interest stories inside the wider aspect of the war, don't you agree?

Hello, Elle!
Yes, I do. She is very readable.
She lives near you. You should pop in to say "hello"?
When I was North one time, (at some wee place, not sure which, now) there was a woman's name on the war memorial. She had gone down with the Lusitania.
I think she was a Sister.
It is still warm up here.
I am off to try my crossword now...before I forget!
