Hi again,

without saying too much, apparently in the film, some girls are 'composites'. I'll say no more.

Having read the synopsis of both book and film (which was my reason for 'googling' in the first place), I do not think it would be my type of either book or film. We are all different!

Now, this is from the film, so should not affect your book!
In the film Mary MacGregor goes to Spain as her brother is fighting with the forces of Franco.
Mary is killed before she finds her brother.
The implication being she joined the International brigade.
(The wrong side according to Miss Brodie.)
Sandy condemns Miss Brodie for putting her Fascist ideas into Mary's head, and blames her for Mary's death.
No wonder I was a-muddled!
They changed the plot for the film!

It was a very good film.
Maggie Smith, who played Jean Brodie, won an Academy Award for her role.
The girl who played Sandy (I forget her name!) won an award too.
I did not realise so much of the book was changed for the film.

I was beginning to suspect that it must be something like that - changing the plot of the book for the film, as you say!
And now that Pigale has mentioned that some of the girls are "composites" in the film, the mists are lifting a little for me .....
I think in the film Mary 's character was mixed with that of Joyce Emily, the girl who WAS actually killed in Spain....
(I can see that not only do I need to read the book again, but maybe watch the film, too!)
Usually, I do not enjoy films where the book storyline has been altered , but I did enjoy Maggie Smith et al in the film!
I have the impression that Sandy's character came over well, too?
Now who was it who played Sandy?

I do not remember a song in it?

I have seen the film, but not read the book. I met Rod McKuen in 1961 (with his dog Kelly)and I have his record of "Bend down and touch me" which I believe was featured in the film, but I do not know if it won any awards.

I cannot remember a song in the film, but Wikipedia can.
Rod McKuen's song won a Golden Globe award.
It was nominated for an Academy Award but lost out to "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head".
Maggie Smith's husband was in the film, too.

Personally, I cannot remember any song in the film - it was a very long time ago when I saw it!
But I do remember and really liked Rod McKuen.
How great that you actually met him!

However, I've been looking it up on Google and Rod McKuen seems to have a number of songs to commemorate the character of Miss Jean Brodie.
I think the song that won the Golden Globe award was "Jean"?

Where would we all be without Wikipaedia?
It turns out that there are a handful of songs by Rod McKuen all paying tribute to The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie!
And if you look on YouTube, you can watch/listen to "Jean" - which won the Golden Globe award!
I used to like him years ago!
We even had some recordings of some of his songs (although not the "Brodie " ones)......
but unfortunately they seem to have gone missing over the years.
Do you remember his singing "Abilene" and "If You Go Away"?
