Similar here, Prospero. I have 16 when counting 7/12 as one. That’s using words at the end of 10 and the beginning of 17d.

Late to this having succumbed to the temptation of a late-night pub. An enjoyable tussle with the slightly obscure bits of GK gettable from the fodder. I liked the fact that the theme had a sort of ghost shadow which nudged me to one solution. FOI 1, LOI 14, which, like geeker, I stared for a while before the penny dropped.
COD - I liked geeker’s 8, but for me 10 pipped it.
Looking forward to more from Brockwell in the future.

Finished at last, a very enjoyable crossword although it took me along time to get started. FOI 21d LOI 9a COD 13a but 10a & 13 a very good contenders.

When you re-visit looking for themes you realise how clever Brockwell was to fit them all in to one grid. Looking forward to the next offering.

Long time reader and follower of this Forum especially for the Guardian Prize.

Really enjoyed this one.

Answer now obvious from the crossers but the parsing of 10 is completely beyond me.

A gentle hint would be greatly appreciated?
