…and I realise now why 7,12 is thematic.

Is there a mistake in the clue for 24a? I'm pretty sure of my answer, but I can't account for the second letter.

It comes from the third word of the clue, Chris.

Re 24 you only need the middle letter from river.
Re 13 “eye” is a two letter acronym.

Thanks jono. I was, of course, using the middle three letters of river. Should have seen the eye.

Lots of Google needed - never heard of 7 12, 18, or the lioness in 4d (I was expecting a footballer!)

A couple of lovely clues - 8a and 5d.

I'm not seeing what to uncover to get 22a.

22 I also wondered about that. I think it’s “well” as an exclamation as in cor!

I pretty much raced through this then ground to a halt in the SE. I'm stuck on 14, both 17s and 20a. I'm sure they'll all be 'doh!' moments but maybe a nudge please for just one of them to get me going again? Thanks.
