I'm still stuck on 5d, 6d, 9a: a hint towards any one of them might be all I need!

Re previous post: I thought the definition was the vessel in which to immerse something (Chambers confirms).

Hi again Pam,

5d - think about how Cleopatra died and was "bitten" and place it figuratively with single letter from first bit of clue - definition is "yesterday" (as in "when do you want it by"?)

6d - 4 letter "game" + 2 letter "six" + 3 letter "Olympian" then "driving German car" is 2,4 - definition is "he scores" (nothing to do with sport)

I'd honestly never heard of this person before.

9a - triple definition.

Like others, I have found this very difficult: without a doubt the most difficult for years. Nevertheless, I've managed all except 2d. The sexual activity is obvious, but beyond that I've no idea, even after reading all the hints in this forum. If anyone is still around can they rescue ne?

Hi Micky,
If you have the sex thing, then the bit in the middle is an anagram (revelling) of two words from the clue plus one letter.

Hi Micky,

2d - the first five words tell you what words and letter in the answer form an anagram/'revelling' and that is surrounded by "sexual activity" (you say that bit is obvious but, having led such a sheltered life 😉, I didn't know it, plus it also has a couple of other non-sexual meanings) - the definition is basically the first word (doing double duty) and the final three.

The 'scorer' is interviewed in the February edition of The Observer Food Monthly magazine.

OK, thanks, Jono & Brendan. I might have been able to solve 2d if I'd ever heard of the place, but being a person whose feeling when that gang is mentioned in the news is "oh no, not them again", I severely handicap myself for clues such as this one.
