There are two possibilities for the wordplay in 4d and the wrong word very nearly fits the def - worth checking, perhaps?

In fact it fits pretty well but would result in a clash (2nd letter).

A positive and enjoyable well-constructed crossword with I completed. I worked in the industry for many years and, believe me, have no romantic illusions about it.

I opted for the wrong one too, jack aubrey (still, ''great minds...'' as they say}.

The correction gives a synonym for either of the alternative letters anagrams.

How so? I see that the uncorrected form does, but not the corrected one. Too clever for me!
