OK. Thanks Jono. In which case that is a bit of an odd one.

Yes, Rocky, that applies to a few of the solutions. The instructions don’t say that the antonym must be of the word in the sense defined in the clue. I would suggest that you don’t think about the clue when looking for the antonym. Just think of the obvious antonym.

Rocky, none of the antonyms have any relation to the clue, only the answer. I think.

Hi, samuipete: on reflection I shouldn’t have said ‘a few’ in my comment above yours. I think that one or two antonyms do just about relate to the answer in the sense as defined by the clue, but they are certainly in the minority.

Entirely agree with chrise
Pick up the paper hoping for a normal crossword and get yet another of these too clever by half specials.
Can accept them once in a while but two in three weeks is too much

Rogissimo I may have been a bit previous! I still have a few to get, I'm on a quick Stella break.

I thought this was easier than the normal prize crossword.
For the antonym clues, you had the cryptic and definition of the
original clue plus the antonym. Most of the antonyms appeared in the
grid by solving the other clues then you can guess the answer to the original and then solve it if you wish.

Didn't enjoy that much. Put in about 10 answers, and didn't think any of them were the Special clues. Turned out some of them were, so all my crossers were wrong.
Having filled in the grid there are still 4 or 5 clues, which I don't have the foggiest idea how they work. I guess I'll find out on 225 next week.

I think it would have been fairer, if the setter had said, for eg, all Across clues are special, Down clues are normal. Then at least you know what you're dealing with.
