An impressive start to the year, especially the extent to which the clues were thematic in themselves.

As usual, found the second character soon after posting. I agree with Dodgepot at #11 - very well put!

I do, however, have a little echo that's troubling me right at the end...

I'm vaguely aware of who the new statistician is, but I assume there will be an announcement or an update on the website, so I shan't preempt it. However, if they follow the forum, I just want to say 'Hats off' to them for taking up the challenge and best wishes in the new role.

I had a full grid before I could fully see the instruction that would enable me to complete the grid.
I have the characters and the phrases, but still working on reverse engineering the clues.

I’m still working on the key phrases tying in with the third numbers. Everything else is fine. I wonder if there is an error in the third numbers or if there is something I haven’t spotted? For example, the fourth word of the second phrase isn’t where it should be (9).
