Now all done, with much head scratching and some reverse engineering. But I cannot parse or reverse engineer 10 across, so a hint would be appreciated. I also have 2 down as “evened”, just to make up the 12.

Eenk - 10A is hidden backwards, and is an obscure Scots word meaning 'dozens'. It then needs 'evening'

Eenk I am sure you're right to even 2d. There is nothing to say that a letter change must be forced by a clash

Finding this an inventive an interesting offering by Kea.
Any nudge on the parsing of 6D would be much appreciated!

Super puzzle - I normally yelp when I see that it's a KEA offering, to whom thanks for a tough challenge.

Left scratching my head about the original entry at 6 down, despite Jack Aubrey's hint - and I read Biggles as a lad!

Thanks, Jack!

I had stopped too early in the Chambers entry for 3a and hadn't seen the unexpected entry that fitted your interpretation.

That helped me with 8d. So chipping it away. Will have another look later and hopefully get it finished.

I have to admit the initial entry for 6 down is a total mystery to me still, despite Jack's kind nudge!

What a gorgeous puzzle - an inventive entry method with a constant sense of jeopardy that I might miscalculate while doing the “evening”.
My only minor gripe - I’m not a big fan of mediaeval Roman numerals, given that I have only ever seen them in Wikipedia.
