Thanks buzzb. I was clutching at straws with regard to 3d, as I find myself with 3 unsolved clues but lacking 4 "evened" solutions. No doubt all will become crystal clear in daylight. Ha!

I believe there is one answer that fits as is but is also the 12th evened entry.

An enjoyable puzzle. I have everything apart from 34a and a little help would be welcome. “Funny old man, droll head Republican” (5)

That was my last answer too, rickeye. But it's a lot easier than many of the others. Def is first 3 letters (funny in the haha sense, but it's not uproarious).
