I am in the same position. I know what letter has to move from the solution to 11a, and I know the destination (from the message) but not how to adjust the text of the clue. Am I meant to elide a couple of words and add the letter?

I am pretty sure I have everything else right, and I am obeying the rules, so this does not matter a lot, but it is annoying.

foinaven - the letter coming out of 11a solution ends up in 6a clue at the end of "late"

The interesting thing is that the device for finding the message is flexible enough for the two letters arising given by 3d and 4d to be the same as the two letters given by 4d and 6d. This is where I went wrong. Fortunately it did not affect the completed grid which is now on its way to Luton.

A belated reply to gregwatsonuk re 40A (@29). A bit of care needed with this as if you have the first 4 letters from crossing answers there is still more than one possible answer. I think the answer is a seven letter migrant minus its last letter (migrant almost), minus a one letter island. Definition is last two words.

Thank you ukridge - sorry for the late reply (husband just back from knee replacement surgery). I think my best bet is to print a new grid and start again!
