Having used TEA, I now have a plausible adjective, but it not an object.

This is beginning to feel like the famous hare.

Difficult to hint without being spoilerish. The letters you enter for each subject do not combine to form an object themselves. I'll leave it at that for now.

If I understand correctly you have the 4 anagrams. Choosing one letter will give you an association for each visible in the grid

The PDM eventually arrived after having had a real mess in the grid with multiple letters in far too many cells.

Please would some kind soul help me with 8a(ii) Cross Himalayan natives cry in parties (6). I know the three letters required to complete one of the four subjects, and two of the other letters if I have correct answers to the adjacent clues, but nothing in Chambers seems to suit. I was expecting Asian hybrids.

Jollity, your Asian hybrids will be correct - and it's definitely in Chambers (under its own spelling and under the more common spelling).

Ah,thank you Malone. Stupidly, I was searching for the plural word, which didn't come up.

I was getting a bit dismissive of endgames.

My quote was two letters different from the setter's, so I passed on the option of trying to pick out the letters of their quote, minus some other letters, to form a picture. Life's too short as you get older!

Then a cube emerged (with some hints here) but I had no idea how to draw one with unambiguous pips. Let it go. (though as a retired senior citizen I have no excuse!)

This time hints here have guided me towards a clear solution, with respect for the puzzle's construction.

I'd question the inclusion of one subject, but that's another story.
