Very nice, but bit of a quick fill-in, once theme is discovered.
Hope for slightly tougher Inquisitor.

I enjoyed this one. Coincidentally I was just talking about the theme a few days ago. Made the reveal nice.

Smithsax, 9a. is a composite anagram. " bardic welsh" is an anagram of "the answer + be + rich"

Oops. The trouble with overlapping answers is that I missed that I had not completed one answer. There was no space in the grid. Just as well I don’t submit.

Nice puzzle, Vainglorious, many thanks! I love it when, as here, the endgame leads me to learn about something real, because I then feel less guilty for the (irresistible) self-indulgence of the solving process itself. It's so satisfying, too, to spot the endgame, then use it to straighten out a few tricky bits.
